“I’m not her. You’ve got the wrong person.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, one of the men held out his phone. Suzie stared at the screen as he swiped, revealing page after page of Oliver’s complete personal profile.
She understood immediately. Jamie had sent them. Showing her how thoroughly they had investigated Oliver was a clear threat.
What was she going to do? He was really going to take her baby away.
“If you would, Ms. Sterling,” the man urged in a flat, emotionless tone.
Suzie looked at the two imposing men before her, a cold sweat breaking out on her forehead. If she refused, if she fought back, what would they do to her?
Driven by that thought, she tried to push past the man in front of her, but he didn't budge an inch. When she tried to dart down the hallway, the other man instantly blocked her path.
Suzie glared at them, her voice sharp with anger. “Did Jamie send you? I’m warning you, what he’s doing is illegal, and so are you!”
Her words were met with a shared glance between the two men. Then, without another word, they each grabbed one of her arms and half-dragged, half-carried her toward the elevator.
With her feet dangling off the ground, Suzie was too afraid to struggle with much force, worried about her pregnancy. She glared from one man to the other and yelled, “Let go of me!”
When they ignored her completely, she screamed, “Help! They’re kidnapping me! Help!”
The bodyguards didn’t even flinch. They just paused for a fraction of a second before continuing on their way.
As fate would have it, the elevator was empty. Just like that, Suzie was effortlessly bundled into a car. She pounded on the windows for a while, but the two men in the front seats were like machines, completely ignoring her.
After answering, the bodyguard gestured for the medical staff to come forward.
Suzie’s eyes fell. She reached for her purse, but the bodyguard swiftly moved it out of her reach. She looked at the doctor, and without a better plan, she decided to feign cooperation and follow them for the examination. After they ran a series of pre-op tests, she was led to a set of double doors.
Suzie froze. She slowly lifted her head, her eyes locking on the blood-red words above: OPERATING ROOM. An uncontrollable tremor ran through her body.
When she finally tore her gaze away, her eyes fell upon a pair of gleaming black leather shoes standing directly in front of her. Suzie’s gaze traveled slowly upward from the shoes.
Jamie stood there, his powerful frame casting a long shadow. His chiseled face was a mask of cold indifference—or more accurately, heartlessness.
“Jamie,” she said, her voice like ice, “whatever there was between us ended with those divorce papers. As of today, you are dead to me.”
