Without closing the door, the man turned and walked toward the main house.

Suzie gripped Stella's hand, stammering through her nerves. "Stella, my heart is about to beat right out of my chest! If she really is... if she's my mother, I..."

Stella squeezed back firmly. "I'm right here with you. Don't panic. We'll play it by ear. Nothing is confirmed yet, so just breathe."

Leaning in, Stella whispered, "In a minute, if she invites us inside, ask to use the bathroom. Steal a toothbrush, grab some hair—whatever you can find for a DNA test. Got it?"

Suzie nodded numbly.

The butler soon returned, his tone just as respectful as before. "Ladies, the Madam invites you in."

"Thank you," Suzie and Stella replied in unison.

As they followed him toward the main house, Suzie whispered anxiously, "Stella, we're showing up unannounced as his classmates, and we didn't even bring a gift. What are we going to say?"

Stella surveyed the beautifully aged architecture of the estate, completely unfazed. "Just say we lost touch while we were overseas and only remembered this address. Keep it simple. And fix your collar—make sure the necklace is hidden."

"Right, okay."

The two were led into the spacious, vintage-styled living room. Two maids courteously showed them to a sofa before quickly returning with pastries and tea.

Suzie took in the elegant, antique decor, finding herself instantly drawn to it.
