When Jamie lifted his eyes, his gaze was even colder than before.
Confused, Suzie frowned and added, “I’m very busy, so please get to the point.”
Her eyes met his without flinching, her calm composure tinged with a newfound distance.
Jamie twirled a pen before tossing it onto the desk. He rose slowly and walked toward her, his voice strictly business. “Regarding the property, real estate, shares, and cash in the agreement—if you feel it’s not enough, you can name your price now.”
Suzie was baffled. Hadn’t he said it was urgent? Was this what he meant? Her eyes involuntarily flicked back to Chloe. Just how desperate was Jamie to get rid of her? To bring this woman here and discuss the terms of their divorce right in front of her?
Suppressing her anger, Suzie composed herself and said flatly, “I made my position on that matter perfectly clear at the bottom of the agreement, which I’ve already signed. If that isn't legally binding enough, you can have your lawyer print a new copy right now, and I’ll sign it again.”
Hearing her ice-cold tone, Jamie’s brow furrowed tightly. He had never seen this side of Suzie. The woman he knew was gentle and sweet. The one standing before him now seemed to be covered in thorns.
Annoyed, Jamie closed the distance between them, his large frame nearly engulfing her.
The sheer pressure of his presence made Suzie’s palms sweat. She instinctively stepped back as he advanced, and soon his cool voice drifted down from above her.
“Suzie, you’re quite the actress, aren’t you?”
Chloe’s mouth twitched, and she let out a forced little laugh. “Is that so? Aren’t you supposed to be finalizing your divorce today? Calling him ‘husband’ so affectionately… you really have no shame.”
Suzie looked away, studying her nails like she couldn’t be bothered. At this point, she wanted nothing more than to disavow any connection to Jamie. But faced with this woman so eager to usurp her, she refused to be lectured.
“What’s the matter? Anxious to move up? I’ve heard that mistresses these days are getting bolder and bolder. Seeing you today, I must say, you’ve exceeded all expectations.” Suzie’s gaze remained fixed on her, her voice still light but filled with a power that refused to be crushed.
Just as the words left her mouth, Suzie saw Chloe’s arms drop from their crossed position.
