They Loved Her After She Died novel Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Sunlight poured in from outside, chasing away the darkness inside.

I came closer to my body lying within.

Since the cellar was sealed and the temperature just right, it seemed like ten days had passed instead of three.

My corpse had begun to decay. Countless insects had hatched, wriggling and crawling within.

My face was dark and bluish from the lack of oxygen. After so many days of decay, my face was unrecognizable.

Seeing that, I panicked for no reason. I didn’t want my three brothers to witness my ugly corpse and instinctively moved to block their view, clinging to what little dignity I had left.

Alas, my efforts were obviously in vain.

Aaron’s face paled instantly. Amidst the silence, he took a small step back nervously. His lips were trembling as he whispered, “W-What is that?”

The overpowering stench and the horrifying sight were enough to make Aaron recoil in disgust. “Get that out. It’s revolting!”

Beside him, the maid blurted out in fear, “Mr. Aaron, that’s Ms. Caldwell! It’s her dead body!”

Aaron’s tone turned icy. “It has only been three days. How could her body decay to this state? Stacking a few dead rats together won’t fool me! She sneaked out of the cellar when we weren’t noticing, huh? No wonder she didn’t make a sound when we called her name. So, this was what happened!”

Hearing his furious words, the maid who had been about to speak fell completely silent.

Bruce and Clark swiftly intercepted Lucy as she rushed forward.

“Don’t go there, Luce. It’s disgusting!”

As I watched their reactions, the faint spark of hope I had just felt shattered completely.

My body was right in front of them, but they ignored it completely. If only they had taken a careful look, they would’ve recognized that the corpse was me!

Right then, Aaron waved in disgust and ordered, “The stench is horrible. Get rid of it. Who knows what kind of infectious diseases it might cause? How revolting!”

As the housekeeper nodded in horror, Aaron left with Lucy in tow. Bruce and Clark cast a disgusted look at the cellar’s entrance and left, too.
