Chapter 8
As Aaron held the wall for support, my phone started ringing again.
I glanced at the screen. This time, it was Clark calling.
Clark was a genius painter who loved all sorts of gorgeous colors.
Four days ago, I found a rare type of red pigment for him. I was certain he would love it. I had no idea I’d die before revealing the surprise to Clark.
After Aaron answered, Clark’s soft voice came through. “Enough, Victoria. Stop being stubborn. You were in the wrong, so no matter where you are, come back now. I’ll protect you.”
As he chattered on, Aaron suddenly interrupted, “Clark, did you order the maids to burn the body? That might have been Victoria!”
Clark’s voice came to a stop. The next second, he said in a shaking voice, “Impossible. Is that really… No, it can’t be Victoria. We merely locked her in the cellar for three days! How could she turn into that disgusting mess?
“That’s impossible. I’m coming back now. We’ll run a DNA test-I know we can do that using hair. That can’t be Victoria.” He then hung up.
Aaron knelt on the ground and burst into tears uncontrollably. Not long after, a maid approached him with an urn. “Mr. Aaron, this should be Ms. Caldwell’s ashes.”
Clinging to the last shred of hope, Aaron turned to the maid coldly and corrected, “That isn’t Victoria. She’s just missing, not dead!”
Right then, another maid approached him and gave him a DNA report.
“Mr. Aaron, when Mr. Clark instructed us to burn the body, we went ahead and ran a DNA test. The results confirmed that the body was indeed Ms. Caldwell. Please accept our condolences, Mr. Aaron.”
Aaron felt as though he had been struck by lightning.
After standing there dazed for several minutes, he suddenly glanced at Lucy, who was still held down by the maids.
“Get me everything that belongs to her.”
Turning to Lucy, he asked, “Bruce said you were the one who framed Victoria?”
Lucy suddenly started struggling. “Aaron, it wasn’t me. I didn’t kill Vicky.”
Her phone had plenty of evidence showing how she framed me previously.
