Moments later, the maid escorted Dominic in.
Alistair stepped forward to greet him. "Mr. Jarrett."
Miriam and Cassandra also approached, their expressions filled with gratitude. "We haven't had the chance to properly thank you for helping Chase..."
Dominic's expression remained perfectly detached. He ignored their thanks and didn't bother shaking Alistair's hand. He stated coldly, "To be frank, I am here about Clara."
Their smiles instantly froze.
Alistair was the first to recover. He awkwardly withdrew his hand, a deep frown forming. "Mr. Jarrett, I wasn't aware you had any ties to her..."
Miriam clenched her jaw tight, and Cassandra seethed with fresh anger.
Dominic replied smoothly, "Whether I do or not is none of your concern."
Their faces darkened immediately.
Miriam couldn't hold back. "Mr. Jarrett, I think you know Chase's condition perfectly well. Clara almost killed my son. How could I ever let her go?"
Cassandra snapped, "Exactly! I'm sure if someone bullied your girlfriend, you wouldn't just stand by and let them get away with it!"
Her careless words struck Dominic's absolute final nerve.
He let out a chilling scoff. "You're completely right..."
Relieved by his response, Miriam called out for the maid to pour him some tea.
"That won't be necessary."
Dominic cut her off sharply.
His face remained devoid of all emotion as he pulled a folder from his coat and handed it directly to Alistair. "I think you all know better than anyone who is right and who is wrong in this situation, and I have absolutely no desire to repeat it. Read this file, then decide if you want to let her go."
Alistair stared at The Colter Dossier, a sickening sense of dread creeping into his stomach. He slowly took it and flipped to the first page.
Instantly, he looked as if he had been struck by lightning. His eyes widened in absolute horror.
Then the second page... the third...
