Three years of loving him, three days to erase myself from his world novel Chapter 23

Toby was momentarily speechless.

He really wanted to say: Weren't you desperate to know more about her? Now that you have a chance to be alone with her, why are you acting difficult?

But he didn't dare.

Toby chuckled awkwardly. "It's the evening rush hour; it's tough to get a cab."

"Plus, it's snowing out there, and it's freezing. If a girl stays out there any longer, she'll definitely catch a cold."

"And from the way she's limping, it looks like she's hurt."

Dominic suddenly fell silent. The city lights cast shadows across his sharp profile, making his expression unreadable.

After a moment, he said, "Pull over. See if she's heading our way and offer her a ride."

"Yes, sir!"

Toby drove over.

...

By the street, Clara couldn't hail a cab. Shivering, she hugged herself, lowered her eyes in disappointment, and sighed.

The next moment, a car pulled up right in front of her.

Clara looked up hopefully, but when she saw it was a Maybach, she was taken aback.

The window rolled down, revealing Toby's familiar face.

"Assistant Marsh," she said, surprised, before noticing Dominic Jarrett sitting in the back.

The man was dressed in an impeccable suit, looking incredibly striking. He had likely just come from a business function. His collar was slightly unbuttoned, giving off a dangerously attractive, decadent vibe.

"Mr. Jarrett..."

Dominic gave a reserved nod in greeting and didn't look at her again.

Clara pressed her lips together.

Toby cleared his throat and said, "Manager Vance, it's hard to get a cab right now. Where are you heading? Mr. Jarrett can drop you off."

Clara felt it would be imposing, especially since they weren't close.

She shook her head. "No, thank you..."

"Don't be polite. We're heading to Riverside Drive," Toby offered.

Clara paused.

It actually was on the way.

"Hey! Are you moving or what? Don't block the road!" an impatient driver honked from behind.

Left with no choice, Clara opened the back door and climbed in. "Then... thank you, Mr. Jarrett. Sorry to trouble you."

Dominic glanced at her snow-dampened hair, his eyes darkening slightly.

"Don't mention it."

Caught off guard, Clara met his gaze and her heart skipped a beat.

It was an indescribable feeling.

It was as if... they had shared this exact look countless times before.

For the longest time, she kept them in her bag, unable to bear using them.

"Someone won these tissues for me..."

That 'someone' was, of course, Julian.

Dominic's grip instantly slackened. His brow furrowed, and his expression turned visibly grim.

Toby was also taken aback, not expecting that answer.

He shot a sheepish look at his boss and mumbled awkwardly, "I see..."

He had thought it was... sigh.

Clara gave a soft "mm," her gaze lingering on the rabbit pattern. She smiled faintly, just about to add that she did indeed like rabbits...

When the man beside her suddenly spoke, his voice cold and flat.

"We're here."

Clara blinked, instinctively looking out the window.

They had arrived right outside the hospital.

She didn't say anything else, turning back to give the man a grateful look.

"Thank you for the trouble today, Mr. Jarrett. I'll treat you to dinner sometime."

Dominic was expressionless.

"No need. Just a small favor."
