Hearing the noise, Sera set down her dainty coffee cup and glanced up. Seeing Clara, she didn't show an ounce of surprise. Instead, she offered a faint, chilling smile.
"You're here. Why don't you take a seat?"
Her complete composure, her effortless confidence, her sheer arrogance, and the utter disdain in her eyes...
It violently tore at Clara's vision. She knew immediately this audacity was bought and paid for by Julian.
Yet not that long ago, that very same man had held her intimately, promising her:
He was completely done with Sera, and Arthur would handle everything concerning her from now on...
A suffocating wave of despair crashed into Clara's chest, leaving her gasping in sheer agony.
Clenching her fists, she took a deep, shuddering breath, forcing down the excruciating pain. She walked over and sat down in the empty chair, not saying a single word.
Right now, even if her love life was shattering, her career could not!
She was here to negotiate a deal, not to start a catfight.
Sera narrowed her eyes slightly, studying her. As a woman, she knew exactly what that composed exterior hid—inside, Clara was already broken into pieces.
Smiling, Sera put on an innocent, falsely apologetic act.
"Clara, I honestly had no idea you were assigned to Mr. Crawford's custom design. Julian was the one who pulled strings to get this for me!"
"He's just terrible sometimes. He knew perfectly well you were working on this, yet he still went out of his way to introduce me to Mr. Crawford."
The words hit her like a vicious slap across the face.
Clara's ears rang, her cheeks burning as if she had been physically struck. She sat frozen in a daze for several agonizing seconds.
Knowing something deep down was one thing; having it flaunted in your face was entirely different.
She looked up at Sera, her brows knitted together, the corners of her eyes rimmed with furious, bloodshot red.
In that moment, if they hadn't been in public, she would have ruthlessly slapped her twice.
Sera let out a dismissive scoff, entirely unfazed by the glare.
What could a woman with absolutely nothing do to threaten her?
She was completely out of her league.
If it wasn't for Julian, Clara wouldn't even be fit to polish her shoes.
Sera smirked, casually admiring her freshly manicured nails as if completely bored, and added, "Julian spent the entire day with me yesterday. Did he not mention it to you?"
Clara froze, the man's words from yesterday echoing mockingly in her head.
He had claimed a project ran into some serious issues, that he was swamped in meetings all day.
So busy he didn't even have a second to send her a text.
It was all a vicious lie!
