Julian had sweet-talked her about going public, but he never had any intention of doing so. He merely used Beverly to string her along!
Their entire relationship was a secret kept strictly between them and Beverly. No one else knew.
Her face tight, Clara nodded, her voice hoarse. "I understand, Mr. Crawford."
Mr. Crawford replied, "Good."
Sera threw Clara a sidelong glance, a smirk of absolute contempt playing on her lips.
She was dead set on securing this commission.
"Mr. Crawford, shall we sit and discuss?"
"Yes, let's."
The two of them walked over and sat down together.
Clara remained glued to the spot. Blinking her dry eyes, she took a few agonizing seconds to compose herself, sniffled softly, and followed them.
But throughout the entire meeting, Mr. Crawford spoke almost exclusively to Sera.
Clara felt utterly sidelined.
Yet she also knew that wallowing in defeat was useless right now. She had to stay grounded and put absolute faith in her own abilities, so she could stage a glorious comeback later.
By the time the discussion wrapped up, it was already 11 AM.
Mr. Crawford had other business to attend to and prepared to leave, giving them her final instructions.
"Tomorrow morning at ten, come to my office to present your design concepts. Once I've reviewed them, I'll make my final decision on who will lead this custom commission."
Sera's eyes lit up with excitement. "Understood, Mr. Crawford. I promise to deliver a proposal you will absolutely love tomorrow."
Clara stayed silent, but her gaze was resolute.
Mr. Crawford left.
The private room plunged into brief silence.
Clara gathered her documents and pen from the table, tucking them into her bag, ready to leave.
Suddenly, Sera leaned over, slamming her hand down on Clara's documents with a sneer. "Clara, I'm not trying to lecture you, but you should just give up while you're ahead. Didn't you see how Mr. Crawford ignored you earlier? She thinks nothing of you!"
"If Julian hadn't taken pity on you and forced you into this, do you seriously think someone with your abilities would have made it this far?"
By "abilities," she obviously wasn't just talking about professional talent. She meant power and money.
Two things Clara severely lacked.
Clara looked up, her voice freezing over. "First of all, I don't believe for a second that I couldn't get here without Julian. In fact, I think I'd be far more successful without him dragging me down!"
Sera's brows knitted together furiously. "You—"
"Secondly, whether Mr. Crawford likes my work or not isn't up to you! I'm confident she won't toss aside the superior design just to settle for a knock-off and embarrass herself."
This custom project was for a complete set of high-end jewelry.
