Clara merely chuckled, entirely unbothered, as she ran her hand over the luxurious fabric of the vintage gown.
She continued casually, "Now, a classic piece like this one might get subtle updates each season, but the foundation never changes. It's timeless. It endures..."
As her words landed, one of the sales associates couldn't help but murmur in agreement.
"She's so right. That's exactly how high fashion works."
Seraphina was speechless.
Her face burned with intense, fiery humiliation.
She shot a desperate glance at the man beside her.
But Julian made no move to defend her. In fact, his intense gaze seemed entirely locked on Clara.
Seraphina's complexion shifted from flushed to ghostly pale.
Clara let out another soft laugh, placing the vintage dress back on the rack before turning to the nearest associate.
"I'll take The Cerulean Siren Gown from the center display. The most expensive one. Put it on this card."
The associate gasped in pleasant surprise. "Right away, miss. Please give me just a moment to pack it up for you."
Hearing that, Seraphina completely lost her temper.
That was the dress she had her eye on.
"Wait! Clara, that dress is mine!"
Clara smiled, her slender fingers playfully twirling the sleek black card.
"First come, first served. Don't you understand basic etiquette?"
Seraphina stared at the card in Clara's hand, swallowing the acidic burn of humiliation.
That was Julian's black card!
This shameless bitch!
"Julian... look at her!" She spun around, aggressively whining to the man.
Julian furrowed his brow, finally breaking his silence as his deep voice echoed a warning. "Clara."
He was warning her that she was taking things too far.
A sharp, familiar ache pierced Clara's chest.
But it was fine.
She was more than used to his coldness by now.
Right on cue.
The associate returned, handing over a massive, exquisitely wrapped garment bag.
Clara took it, her fingers gripping the handles tightly. She met Julian's dark, brooding stare and threw out one last remark.
"Like I said: first come, first served. And as for the money on this card? I've earned every single cent of it."
