Nova didn't know how to respond to these colleagues. She just nodded slightly, lowering her eyes. "Thank you, but he's usually very busy."
At this, Chloe froze.
Had she really just overthought things?
"But what about your capabilities?" Chloe demanded. "What right do you have to keep me out of the new group?"
Nova could sense that Chloe's arrogant fire had already dimmed significantly.
Samuel intervened, "Can you guarantee that if Nova hadn't pointed out your mistakes, you actually would have delivered the results yesterday? If you say yes, I'll assign the exact same research topic to you."
Chloe didn't look the least bit guilty; instead, she was furious. "It was just dumb luck on her part..."
"Whether it was or wasn't, I'm only asking if you could have done it?" Samuel furrowed his brows, genuinely considering firing her right then and there.
Before Chloe could speak, Nova turned on the projector, displaying all the data submitted yesterday on the screen.
"Management just released the files, confirming that all the data has been fully utilized, so there's no risk of leaks now. I'll explain to everyone exactly why Chloe wasn't selected."
Over the next five minutes, Nova consolidated the core of everyone's data, filtered out all the errors and omissions, and finally, overlaid their individual interpretations of the research.
Everyone's contributions were clear. Even when the data was flawed, Nova had pinpointed the errors alongside their underlying hypotheses. For those who realized their direction was wrong and pivoted using their own ideas, she highlighted that too.
But for Chloe's section, there was absolutely nothing...
At this point, everyone understood exactly what had happened.
They couldn't help but admire Nova. The fact that she could explain it all so clearly, entirely off script and supposedly as a newcomer, proved she possessed serious talent.
"What else do you have to say?" Samuel asked Chloe.
Chloe looked utterly humiliated, but her gaze toward Nova shifted.
It wasn't jealousy anymore, but realization. "What you did at Forrester Group must have been completely different from this. The fact that you could familiarize yourself with all this data in such a short time is incredible. And you're pregnant... I'm sorry."
