The audience buzzed, and even viewers online exploded with debate.
What did Team Moriane mean? Were they trying to poach talent from Stonegate?
Asher was the most unsettled person present. If Noelle lost, they'd take Lola back to Moriane, and that was something he absolutely couldn't allow.
Just as he was about to turn down the wager, Noelle calmly replied, "Sure. I have no problem with that, but let's see if you have what it takes."
Asher felt like he was struck by lightning, while everyone else saw her as fearless and commanding. Provoked by her words, Bruce and their teammates lost their easy smiles and showed only their hunger for victory.
"Quake, your skills are impressive, but I must remind you that tomorrow's challenge will involve a higher level of difficulty and won't be child's play like today. I hope you're ready," Bruce coldly warned.
Noelle responded with a light smile. "I'll be waiting."
A few bold threats wouldn't rattle her, and Team Moriane was ridiculous to think they could.
After the round ended, Team Moriane wasn't even in the mood for interviews and swiftly left the venue. Afraid that Noelle might slip up, Asher quickly ushered her away from the hall and back to the lounge.
Once inside, he stationed guards at the door and thoroughly inspected the room before turning to Noelle nervously. "Ms. Lucy, this isn't what we agreed on!"
She frowned. "What's different? Are you talking about me proposing a wager?"
She scoffed. "Since it's a competition, there naturally should be a wager. Otherwise, why would I work myself to death for nothing?"
It struck her that Asher was incredibly naive. Did he believe she'd hand Lola such an easy chance at fame without a cost?
Her tone carried a hint of grievance as she continued, "I'm using my own skills to win the challenge, so placing a wager is not a surprise, unless you believe I can't win tomorrow's round."
Asher's expression hardened in panic. In truth, that was exactly what he thought.
He believed that while Noelle was skilled, she might not necessarily defeat the expert Team Moriane. If she lost, Lola would be the one sent to Moriane, and he could never allow Lola to go abroad!
She called Asher twice, and he finally answered on the last ring.
"Asher, since the event's over, could you come over to keep me company today?" Lola cried out and sounded on the verge of tears. She'd just lost their child, so surely no one would lose their temper with her at a time like this.
She refused to see Noelle seize the chance to steal Asher away.
Asher's tone was somewhat impatient. "I'm very busy here, Lola, so I don't have time to go back. I'll come to you after these next couple of days, while you focus on getting a good rest at the hospital for now."
With that, he hung up and transferred five million dollars to her.
To Lola, this felt like a slap in the face. She never needed that money, and while he'd given Noelle 500 million dollars, he gave her only five million dollars!
Lola's heart twisted painfully. She vowed to remember that debt and lay all the blame on Noelle.
