Too Good for You The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 216

After dropping off their luggage, Hunter went to take a shower. Noelle headed to the cafeteria and immediately heard people gossiping.

"Have you heard? Ms. Clarkson is actually Mr. Haberkorn's fiancee. Apparently, it was something the Haberkorn family arranged! Mr. Haberkorn doesn't like her, so he's never acknowledged the engagement. Even now, it hasn't officially been canceled!"

"Then doesn't that make Ms. Quinn the mistress? She's still dating him despite the fact that he has a fiancee. Isn't that improper?"

"So what? The Haberkorns are a wealthy family. Even if they don't get married, it's still worth dating him now and getting some benefits out of it. Besides, Mr. Haberkorn is a handsome man. If I were Ms. Quinn, I'd be tempted, too."

Noelle maintained an expressionless face as she went to get her food. Just then, Maxine walked up to her in a long, tight dress.

Then, she whispered in a voice that only the two of them could hear, "Ms. Quinn, did you hear that? Right now, you're a homewrecker who stole someone's fiance. Once this kind of rumor spreads, it won't do your image as a racer any good."

A faint, mocking smile tugged at Maxine's lips.

Noelle couldn't be bothered to deal with her. "Hunter himself has never acknowledged being a part of the Haberkorn family. You love manipulating others so much, but aren't you afraid it'll backfire on you in the end?"

She actually found Maxine a little pitiful and very foolish.

Maxine knew Hunter didn't like her, yet insisted on throwing herself at him.

Maxine's eyes reddened. "Noelle, do you think I'm doing this because I want to? I don't care whether Hunter likes me or not, but the Clarkson family can't survive without the Haberkorn family. For the future of the Clarkson family, I'll never let go of Hunter."

Noelle sneered. "Things that are handed to you by others will never be as secure as things earned by your own ability. You really believe in Laura, don't you? She's not that kind."

Maxine replied, "That's perfect, then."

Maxine smiled at her. "As it happens, I'm not that kind, either."

With that, Maxine glanced around, twisted her ankle, and dropped to the floor with a thud.

She teared up as she looked up at Noelle and cried loudly, "Ms. Quinn, I know you don't like me. You think my engagement to Hunter is standing in the way of you two being together. But I never wanted to ruin your relationship. I just wanted to ease the tension between us. Why did you push me?"

Noelle was rendered speechless.

She'd been so focused on racing these days that she'd forgotten that these people were masters at manipulation.

She tilted her head, motioning toward a surveillance camera nearby. "There's a camera right there. Your fake fall was recorded from start to end."
