Too Good for You The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 240

Through the smart doorbell, Sadie spotted Hunter standing outside the door and smiled knowingly.

She grabbed her bag, opened the door, and told him, "She's your girlfriend, so you should stay here and take good care of her. I've got things to attend to, and I'm heading out."

Noelle would never tell her anything when something was wrong. All she ever did was drink alone and sulk it out herself, but how was that supposed to solve anything?

Besides, whoever caused the mess should be the one to fix it. She refused to believe that Noelle's drinking and sulking had nothing to do with Hunter.

Sadie slipped away.

When Hunter entered the door, he spotted Noelle still drinking. After shutting the door behind him, he walked over and took the bottle from her. "I'm sorry, Noelle. I never meant to keep it from you."

Noelle lifted her heavy, half-closed eyelids. She had drunk a lot, but she wasn't wasted.

Curled her lips into a smile, she asked, "What are you doing here, Hunter?"

He clasped her wrist, and his eyes were full of pain. "It was my fault for not telling you the truth. Will you please give me a chance to make it right?"

He didn't understand why Nancy had told Noelle that he was the head of Haberkorns since she had never interfered in his affairs. But now that it had happened, he had to try his best to make amends to make sure the incident wouldn't leave Noelle feeling scarred and conflicted.

Noelle let out a quiet laugh. Once she confirmed that the Hunter before her was real and not her imagination, she voiced her true feelings. "Hunter, you know the responsibilities you have to shoulder as the head of the Haberkorns. Do you think the two of us are fit for each other?"

She yearned for the freedom of the racetrack, while he would ultimately be bound by his familial duties. Their paths would never align forever.

Right now, he was compromising for her sake, but that didn't mean he could keep doing it forever.

"I can give up the family head title, just to stay by your side and chase your dreams with you," Hunter said, cupping her cheeks as his eyes reddened. "Please… Just don't give up on me, alright?

"I've waited so long for you, and it took everything I had just to find you again..."

Hunter's nose stung as he dared not meet her eyes. Even his tears kept falling, and his shoulders shook.

"How could I ever let you go..."

He couldn't do it; he would never give her up now that he finally had her.

Noelle's heart clenched with pain as she saw Hunter acting this way. He was faced with the responsibilities of the Haberkorn family head and would suffer more than she ever could.

As a faint smile touched her lips, she slowly pried his hands away. "Hunter, I don't like the idea of you giving up what was meant to be yours for my sake. It makes me feel like I'm failing you."

She ruffled his hair and gently continued, "Go back. We both need some space to calm down, so I can think carefully about what I have to choose.

As Nancy adjusted the flowers on the desk, she offhandedly said, "She's your girlfriend, so she has the right to know who you are. Are you blaming me for speaking out of turn?"

"If you wait until then to talk about it, don't you think it'd be a little too late?"

Hunter hesitated. "Grandma—"

She thoughtfully continued, "I'll give you two years. If you're still stable and happy together after that, I won't meddle with whether you decide to marry or have children.

"But if something goes wrong in your relationship within these two years, I expect you to cut your losses in time and find a new wife to carry on the family line."

Hunter instinctively objected. "No."

"She's young and hurt by marriage once, so how are you so sure that she'll always love you?" Nancy asked with a faint smile.

"This is my final bottom line, my child."
