Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 104

Chapter 104

Iris’s POV

After a while, I stood up and went to the mirror. I took off my shirt and examined my body. My elbow, which had been bruised from training, was smooth. The cut on my shoulder? Gone. Even the scar on my collarbone from falling on a sharp rock, had vanished.

I touched other spots where I could remember that had injuries, waiting for the sting, or the dull reminder of pain. But there was nothing.

I stared at my reflection, stunned. I was completely healed.

My throat tightened. I closed my eyes, trying desperately to reach for my wolf again.

But the silence was the same as always.

I opened my eyes sharply as anger and confusion filled me. “Damn it!”

I ran a hand through my hair and released a shaky laugh. “So what the hell healed me? Or is my wolf playing games with me?”

Of course, there was no answer.

I paced the room, staring at my hands every few seconds as if they would suddenly tear open again and prove this was a hallucination.

But they stayed the same

My brain spun with several thoughts. What if this was some trick? What if I was losing my mind? Or what if something unnatural was happening to me?

There was a soft knock on the door, and I jerked.

I rushed to the bed, grabbed a blanket and used it to cover my hands. “Who is it?”

“It’s me,” Shane’s voice rang out. “You’re still awake?”

I opened the door slightly, and he leaned against the door frame, holding what looked like a cup of tea. “I couldn’t sleep. I thought I should check in on you.’

Then he paused, his eyes narrowed. “Why do you look guilty?”

My breath caught.

“I don’t,” I said quickly.

His eyebrow shot up. “You’re literally hiding your hands under a blanket like a criminal.”

I glared at him. “Do you ever mind your own business?”

“No,” he said with a shrug, then he tried to step inside, but luckily I was ahead of him. I

pushed the door quickly and locked it.

On the other side of the door, he chuckled. “Wow You actually slammed the door in How rude.”

my face.

I pressed my back against it, my heart pounding. If he decided to force his way through the door, I wouldn’t be able to stop him.

“I’m serious, Iris,” he said after a moment. His tone shifted and became more serious. “You’re acting weird. What are you hiding?”

“Nothing!” I shot back. “Go to bed, Shane.”

There was silence for a moment. Then he laughed. “You’re a terrible liar. You know that, right? Your voice goes all high-pitched when you’re lying.”

I groaned and buried my face in my hands. “Go away!”

He tapped lightly on the door. “Come on, what is going on? And don’t lie to me. You can’t expect me not to notice when you’re hiding something, especially as you’re so bad at lying.”

“Goodnight, Shane,” I muttered, trying to sound firm.

He paused again, and when he spoke, his voice was softer. “Fine. But if something’s wrong… don’t keep quiet about it, okay? At least let me help.”

My chest tightened.

A second later, I heard his footsteps as he walked down the hall.

I released a shaky breath as I finally went to lie down.

Sleep didn’t come easy. I tossed and turned. I tried counting sheep, then I tried counting how many times Lucas had called me “pathetic” this week, but nothing worked. My mind kept circling back to my hands, my healed injuries, and the possibility that something was seriously wrong with me.

Finally, sometime after midnight, I fell asleep.

The next morning, I woke up with a stiff back and a pounding head. I sat up slowly, feeling so exhausted. It was time for training.

For a brief, blissful moment, I forgot about everything that had happened last night.

Until I saw my hands again. There were no bandages, and it was perfect, no mark, and no scar.

I cursed under my breath. “Still healed.”

I know I should have felt relief, but what I felt instead was dread. Lucas was going to notice.

He would take a glance at my hands and he would start grilling me, and I wasn’t ready for questions I couldn’t answer. He would probably make me try to call my wolf again, and when I
