The door clicked softly as Rowan left, and the silence that settled after felt suffocating. My chest throbbed as if it were trying to urge me to stay, but I had made my decision, even if a huge part of me resisted.

I let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through my hair. The way Rowan had left made my chest ache, and I found myself wishing we could see each other one more time, just to ease the heaviness within me.

I began arranging the few things I had brought with me into my bag.

The door creaked open, and I perked up, hoping it was Rowan. But I looked up to see Jasmine slipping inside. Lucas hadn’t followed her this time, so it was just the two of us in the room.

I sighed. “I’m sorry,” I said.

Her face softened, and she gave a small smile.

“I’m… not mad that you’re leaving,” she said quietly, sitting on the chair near the bed. “I’m just… hurt that you didn’t tell me.”

Guilt twisted sharply in my chest. “I didn’t mean to. I… I just couldn’t. I’m so sorry, I just didn’t want Rowan to find out before I even had the courage to face him.”

Jasmine’s eyes softened even more, and she leaned back in the chair. “I get it. I just wish I had known, but I understand. So… you’re leaving..”

I nodded slowly. “I can’t stay, Jasmine. I can’t. Not after everything.”

She released a sigh, then she smiled. “Alright then. When do you want to leave?”

I exhaled, feeling some of the tension ease from my shoulders. “Now,” I said without hesitation. Saying it aloud made my heart clench.

Jasmine raised a brow and released a soft laugh. “Now? Why are you in such a hurry to leave the comfort of your warm bed, Iris?” She teased, but I could hear the worry in her voice.

I gave her a small smile.

Then a comfortable silence fell between us as I finished arranging my bag. When I was done, I turned back to her.

“I need to avoid being seen on the way out. Is there any path I could take? Somewhere hidden?”

Jasmine thought for a moment, then she nodded. “There’s a path by the eastern side. Only patrols are there, but pack members don’t go there because it’s rough terrain. You could use it, fewer people would see you if you followed there.”

Relief flooded through me. I really wanted to avoid being seen.

I thought of Rowan again, and I swallowed. A part of me longed to see him again, just one last time, but I couldn’t. He was mad at me.

She stepped closer. “Iris, I’ll walk with you to the edge of the territory. After that it’s your journey alone. You

know I can’t go any further.”

I nodded, swallowing hard. “I know. Thank you… for everything.”

“Promise me you’ll be careful,” Jasmine said softly as we reached the door.

“I will,” I replied, gripping my bag tighter as I braced myself for what was ahead.
