Too Late Alpha The Mate He Never Wanted (Iris and Eric) novel Chapter 80

Chapter 80

Iris’s POV

When I realized I had been staring at him for too long, I still couldn’t look away. Rowan stood in the middle with a commanding presence that dragged the attention of every pack member around him. The older wolves leaned in when he spoke, paying immense attention to every word he said.

But something made my stomach twist.

And it was about Rowan.

At first, I thought maybe I was imagining it. But the more I looked, the more I realized something was off, and different about him

The Rowan I knew, even in the short time I had been here, was warm in small ways. He had a warm look in his brown eyes when he glanced at me, like I was someone he truly saw.

He had caught me when I slipped on the stairs, when I was trying to sneak out when I was injured. He had brought me food when I was too weak to move. He had sat by my bed when nightmares wouldn’t allow me to sleep.

But the Rowan I saw now?

There was no warmth.

His expression was as hard as stone. His eyes were cold, and unflinching. And his jaw was tight. The Rowan I knew looked at me like I was human. This Rowan looked at the pack members around him like they were nothing.

And the worst part was that they didn’t flinch at his coldness. They were used to it.

It was almost the same way he had looked at Chloe that day when she had barged into his room, the first time we met.

A chill crawled up my spine as Jasmine’s words echoed sharply in my head.

“That side of him? The one you’re seeing? That doesn’t come out. Ever. Not in front of the pack. Not even with me most of the time. He’s not wired that way.”

I blinked several times as my mind raced with several thoughts.

She had been right.

This Rowan standing before his pack was not the Rowan who had carried me up to the room. He wasn’t the Rowan who had almost kissed me. No. This was the Rowan Bane, Alpha of the Blood Moon pack.

And if he knew what I had just done to Chloe, his future Luna. My stomach twisted as imagined him looking at me with this cold, unflinching look.

I tried to look away so he wouldn’t catch me staring, but I just couldn’t look away, no matter how much dread crept up within me.

The group around him left, and another pack member approached him after bowing his head. Rowan turned slightly to face him, but his posture didn’t soften. His eyes remained cold.

I bit down on my lip.

Was I being stupid to believe that he was different with me? Wasn’t I just imagining things?

Because it couldn’t be right. It didn’t make sense.
