Too Late for Regret:My Ex-Husband Are Trying to Win Me Back novel Chapter 14

In Kingsbridge, Lynette's condition had worsened. Philip had drawn up several treatment plans for her, but above all, he emphasized proper sleep and regular meals.

That night, Lynette was startled awake by a knock at her door. At first, it was faint. Then it grew louder, heavier—until the sound turned into hacking at the door with a knife.

Terrified, she called the police immediately. Officers arrived and took the man away.

It turned out he was a convicted sex offender, recently released. He had noticed Lynette on the street, found her attractive, and begun following her. But since he hadn't physically harmed her, the police couldn't detain him.

"Ms. Sterling, it's dangerous for you to live alone. Do you have friends or family in Kingsbridge? We strongly recommend you stay somewhere else. You were lucky this time, but there's no guarantee there won't be a next."

Lynette's family was gone. There was no one she could rely on anymore.

She was about to admit she had nowhere to go when a man stepped forward. "She does. Sorry for the trouble. I'm Lynette's friend. She'll be staying with me for now."

It was Philip. Lynette blinked in surprise, but when she thought about it, he really was the only person she knew in Kingsbridge. So, she agreed.

Only after confirming Lynette had a safe place to stay did the police finally let her go. Philip's reputation reassured them—he wasn't only the city's youngest and most accomplished psychologist, but also the CEO of Langford Group. His character was beyond question.

After leaving the police station, Lynette asked curiously, "How did you know I was here?"

Philip explained, "When you came for treatment, you wrote down your address, and it happens to be one of the properties under Langford Group. Since you had only just arrived in Kingsbridge, I worried something might happen, so I asked the property management to keep an eye out.

"They notified me when the police went to your place."
