Too Late for Regret:My Ex-Husband Are Trying to Win Me Back novel Chapter 15

It was far easier said than done.

Philip fetched Lynette's medication, and only after she took it did her condition ease slightly.

Meredith's eyes softened with pain. "Darling, you've suffered all these years. If we had known how terrible Zachary was, we would have sent Philip to steal you back long ago. The Wrights never valued you as a daughter-in-law, but our family has always held you dearly."

Her words left Lynette confused. She had already sensed something unusual about Philip before, but Meredith's words confirmed her suspicions.

"Mrs. Langford, why would you say that?"

Meredith looked genuinely surprised. "Didn't you know, Lynette? Philip has liked you since you were kids. He only let go because you chose Zachary. He said it didn't matter who you ended up with, as long as you were happy."

Lynette's heart dropped as she turned to Philip in disbelief. He had liked her all this time. She had always assumed he cared for her like a sister. Meredith's words tore down that thin veil of misunderstanding, leaving both of them unsettled.

In the end, Philip broke the silence and said, "Mom, you've said too much."

Only then did Meredith realize that Lynette had never known.

The meal that followed was awkward. Lynette barely ate.

After the meal, Lynette decided it wasn't appropriate for her to continue staying here, so she bid farewell to Philip.

"Philip, I don't think I should keep bothering your family. I'll move out. I'll stay at a hotel for now. Once things settle down, I'll find another place."

With that, she turned to go upstairs and pack.

Philip's expression tightened, emotions he had long buried rising to the surface. He grabbed her wrist, stopping her. "Is this because you know how I feel? Is that why you're rushing to draw a boundary between us?"

And she had yet to avenge her father's injustice. She had no capacity for romance.

Gently, she pried his fingers from her wrist. Her voice was steady. "Philip, thank you for liking me. But right now, I only want to be by myself. Please explain my situation to your parents for me."

With that, Lynette turned to leave.

At the door, Philip called after her. "I will never give up on you, Lynette. I didn't pursue my happiness back then. This time, I won't let go."

Lynette heard him but only shook her head helplessly.

Philip wasn't the problem. She simply no longer had the heart to love anyone else.

For now, she only wanted to learn how to love herself again.
