Charmaine was escorted back to the Wright residence by bodyguards in Whistletown.
Zachary's heavy dark circles betrayed the fact that he hadn't slept properly for days.
Charmaine never thought she would see him again. Delight flickered across her face as she said, "Zachary, you've finally felt the regret, haven't you? I told you I'm the one who truly loves you. Admit it, Zachary. I'm the one you love. Lynette was just a replacement you found after I left. Now that she's gone, when do you think we should get married?"
She pressed on, her voice brimming with certainty, "Your wedding with Lynette was so extravagant. Ours can't be any less grand. You must settle every detail personally. That's how I'll know you mean it."
Charmaine spoke as though she was sure Zachary would return to her.
But Zachary let out a short, cold laugh. An icy glint flickered in his eyes. "Charmaine, you have treated me like a fool all these years, yet you still want to become Mrs. Wright? Charmaine, with the little history we once shared, I'll show you mercy. You can choose the consequences you will bear."
His expression was calm—too calm. That composure terrified Charmaine. "Zachary, what are you talking about? I don't understand."
Zachary didn't answer. Instead, he tossed a tablet in front of her, a video playing across the screen. "Now, do you understand? Or how much longer will you keep pretending? Charmaine, how dare you manipulate me and hurt Lynette again and again? You have overestimated yourself."
Charmaine's heart plunged. She dropped to her knees, scrambling toward him in panic. "Zachary, the video is fabricated! It's fake! You know what kind of person I am. Why would I do something like that? You have to believe me!"
Tears streamed down her face as she tugged desperately at the corner of his pant leg.
She was terrified.
But Zachary did not waver. He kicked her away. "I trusted you once, and that's why Lynette was hurt over and over again. Charmaine, this time, you will repay everything you owe."
