Zachary took in the scene in front of him and murmured under his breath, “Happy New Year.”

Taylor, who had been standing close enough to hear everything, tipped his head and leaned lightly against Zachary’s shoulder. “What does ‘Happy New Year‘ mean?” he asked curiously.

Zachary paused for a moment, then a faint smile crossed his face. “It’s just a phrase people use to wish others well,” he explained.

“I see…” Taylor nodded slowly like he was processing it, then suddenly raised his voice with enthusiasm. “Happy New Year!”

After that, he started moving around, calling it out to everyone he saw. “Happy New Year, Zachary! Happy New Year, Sire! Happy New Year, Jaden… Happy New Year to all of us!”

Once Quincy’s family had gone, Zachary lingered doorway, tilting his head back to look at the night sky scattered with shimmering stars.

They shone so vividly it reminded him of the nights from his childhood courtyard.

He thought of his grandparents. He missed them deeply, but they were gone from that world already, and they didn’t exist in this one either.

As a child, he used to be dragged along with the adults to visit graves during the New Year. It always meant waking up before sunrise, freezing and half–asleep, not wanting to go.

He would resist every time, until his grandma would gently shake him awake and tempt a small gift or promise.

Paper ash from burning offerings would drift through the air like scattered snow. Zachary would kneel in front of the graves and whisper softly, “Grandpa, Grandma, Happy New Year.”

Matthew came up behind him without a word and wrapped his arms around him. Only then did he notice Zachary’s damp, reddened eyes and frowned slightly.

“What’s going on?” he asked.

Zachary rested back against him, voice quiet and distant. “Matthew… where do you think people go after they die?”

Matthew tightened his hold just a little. His voice lowered. “They become part of this world. They don’t really leave us.”

That was the same thing his sire had once told him before leaving to search for his alpha.

Zachary reached for his hand. “Matthew.”

“Yeah?” Matthew murmured, leaning his face into the side of

“Promise me you won’t ever leave,” Zachary said.

When night fell and it was time to sleep, Zachary lay back in Matthew’s arms, Jaden tucked safely between them. The three of them were wrapped in thick beast–hide blankets, warm and tightly gathered together.

Zachary began talking about his world, and both Matthew and Jaden listened closely.

“When people go out, they use bikes or cars. Cars are just machines that help you get places faster,” he explained.

Jaden tilted his head. “So… it’s like riding on Alpha’s back?”

“Something like that,” Zachary said with a small laugh.

“Then does that make Alpha a car?” Jaden asked seriously.

“Well…” Zachary smiled faintly. “I guess you could say that.”

“When I grow up, I want to be a car for you too, Sire,” Jaden declared.

Matthew cut in immediately. “Your sire has me. He doesn’t need you.”

Jaden shot back without missing a beat, “But when you get old, you won’t be able to carry

Sire anymore.”

Matthew replied flatly, “Then you can carry both of us.”

“You can just walk on your own,” Jaden said.

“And why is that?” Matthew asked.

‘Because you’re too heavy.” Jaden said bluntly. “You’ll slow me down so I can’t run fast.”

Matthew tried a different angle. “I carried you all the time when you were little.”

Jaden paused, thinking it over. “I’ll let my younger brother carry you instead.”

Zachary blinked. “Wait–where exactly are you getting a younger brother from?”

Jaden reached over and patted Zachary’s stomach very seriously. “We’ll have one soon.”

Zachary froze for a moment, completely thrown off, unsure how to respond.

Matthew stayed silent, simply pulling Zachary a little closer.

For a short while, the cave was quiet. Then Zachary suddenly took both Matthew and Jaden’s hands and described a place in detail.

“That’s where I lived in my world,” he said softly.

Jaden looked up. “So can we all go there together one day?”

Matthew answered in a low, steady voice. “We’re not going anywhere.”

Zachary gently stroked Jaden’s back. “No matter where we end up, we’ll always be a family.”

Peace lingered over the Black Panther Tribe for a while, and then something joyful came along–Elias and Kyle were going to bond as mates.

The news reached them while Zachary and Quincy were sitting by the fire, sewing clothes for the two boys.

Shortly after, Kyle arrived, practically radiating excitement as he invited them to join him for dinner.

In the tribe, it was customary for others to contribute food and gather in celebration whenever two individuals formed a mate bond.

Zachary and Quincy were surprised. They had already noticed Kyle’s interest in Elias, but they hadn’t expected things to move so quickly.

“Did Elias agree?” Zachary asked immediately, clearly taking Elias‘ side. “When did this even happen?”

Kyle grinned brightly. “Of course he did. He said yes last night.”

Quincy’s eyes drifted to Kyle’s face, then he pointed at a bruise. “Did something happen while you were hunting?”

Kyle brushed it off as if it meant nothing. “Oh, that? Ethan just couldn’t tolerate me taking Elias away from him, so he hit me.”

Zachary frowned slightly. “Ethan actually managed to beat you?”

Kyle shrugged without concern. “Well, since Elias and I are going to be mates, I’ll be part of his family too. He’ll come around eventually, so I let him vent.”

That explanation made Zachary vaguely understand why Ethan had reacted that way.

Originally, it would have been easier to inform Daniel and the others, but Kyle insisted on telling everyone personally. He ended up walking through the entire tribe for half the day.

When he passed Elias” home, he was just about to greet them when Ethan, standing guard outside the cave, stopped him.

Kyle smiled casually. “Hey, Ethan. Is Elias inside?”

Ethan stepped in front of the entrance immediately. “No.”

He moved as if ready to shut the door at any second, clearly trying to prevent himself from losing patience
