That alone definitely would not be enough to fill their stomachs, so Zachary added roasted potatoes, meat, and some congee.

Outside the cave, the snow had climbed so high that the entrance would be buried if no one cleared it. Matthew spent quite a while shoveling and sweeping before he finally opened a narrow path.

Zachary cracked the door open and leaned out just enough to call, “Breakfast is ready!”

“Coming.”

Jaden woke up around then as well. After shifting back, he sat on the bed in a foggy daze for a good while before slowly starting to dress himself.

The cold felt harsher than usual. Even after he climbed out of bed and put on the thick new coat his Sire had made for him, little tremors still ran through him.

At breakfast, Jaden looked pitiful. He sat there with his eating sticks in hand, chewing each mouthful slowly, and he was much quieter than normal.

Zachary noticed the unnatural redness in his cheeks and reached over to touch his forehead. His brows tightened at once. “Jaden, are you feeling unwell?”

Matthew also set down his eating sticks and looked over, concern sharpening his

eyes.

Jaden’s voice came out dull and hoarse. “Sire, I’m just cold. I want to sleep again.”

“Anywhere else uncomfortable?” Zachary grew even more worried. Recently, many people in the tribe had been falling ill.

It looked similar to catching a cold, but far more stubborn. Once the fever started, it often lasted for several days.

Jaden did not want to worry Zachary. He tried his best to sit up a little straighter. “I’m okay. If I eat and sleep more, I’ll get better.”

He was so sensible that Zachary’s heart ached. Zachary held his small hand. “It’s okay. We’ll go see Mr. Bruce. After you take some medicine, you’ll feel better.”

Matthew went inside and brought out his own thick outer robe, wrapping Jaden in it before holding him securely against his chest.

Snow was still falling heavily outside. Matthew looked at Zachary. “Stay here. I’ll take him.”

Zachary shook his head. “No. We’ll go together.”

Matthew said, “Then wear another layer. Put on your hat and scarf too.”

“Okay” Zachary quickly wrapped himself up. “Let’s go.”.

Matthew was tall and strong, and his arms held Jaden steadily. Wrapped in thick beast hide and pressed against his warm chest, Jaden felt safe. With Matthew’s steps rising and falling in a steady rhythm, the boy

fell asleep almost immediately.

The tribe had people taking turns clearing snow, so the road could still be used. Carrying Jaden, the two of them soon arrived at Bruce’s cave.

A crowd had already gathered outside, all waiting for medicine. Donald’s sire was also there helping.

Laurent and Bruce were seeing patients, while Donald and his Alpha handled everything else+boiling medicine, fetching herbs, cleaning up. None of the four had even a moment to rest.

“Bruce, Jaden’s running a fever.” Zachary’s worry showed clearly as he lifted the edge of the hide robe, revealing Jaden’s flushed face. “He didn’t seem right after waking up this morning.”

Jaden remained asleep, his breathing heavy and uneven. The air leaving him was burning hot. Matthew kept holding him carefully, every movement gentle, afraid of making him feel worse.

Bruce examined him. The signs were the same as the others in the tribe. “Donald just finished boiling a pot. Let Jaden drink a bowl first.”

The cave was a complete mess inside. By the time Zachary brought the medicine over, Matthew had already woken Jaden.

The boy’s eyelids were heavy, but he still forced them open. He did not cry or make trouble. He simply leaned quietly in his Alpha’s arms. The medicine was terribly bitter, but he drank the whole bowl obediently without needing anyone to coax him.

After breakfast, Taylor had originally planned to call Jaden out to build snowmen with the other cubs.

When Yael stepped outside, he happened to see Matthew and Zachary returning with Jaden. He caught Taylor by the back of his collar. “Jaden’s sick. Don’t bother him today. Let him rest.”

“What? Jaden’s sick?” Taylor’s cheerful face fell at once, and worry twisted his brows. “Is it serious? Did he see Mr. Bruce? Did he drink medicine?”

The questions came so fast that Yael did not know which one to answer first.

“I’m going to see him.” Taylor no longer cared about playing. He grabbed his hidden stash of candy, shoved it into his pocket, and ran out.

Inside the cave, Jaden lay on the bed with a damp piece of beast hide that Zachary had prepared resting on his forehead. His eyes were closed, and he drifted in and out of sleep.

Matthew stood near the stove, watching a pot of raisin congee simmer.

Jaden had barely eaten in the morning, so Zachary decided to make something easier on the stomach.

He scooped out some flour, added a little salt, cracked in two eggs, then poured in water and mixed everything together. Once the dough came together, he kneaded it until the surface turned smooth and left it to rest. After that, he took out the wooden rolling pin and began rolling thin noodles.

They had once used a stone roller, but it was too heavy and left his hands aching. Later, Matthew had followed Zachary’s description and carved a new one from a branch. The old stone roller had since been reassigned to crushing herbs.

When Taylor arrived, he was covered in snow. Quincy and Yael had chased after him, but neither had managed to catch up.

Zachary heard the knock. Matthew opened the door, and a little snowman appeared outside.

Taylor’s face was red from the cold wind, and his nose was nearly dripping. He rubbed his hands together. “Is Jaden feeling better?”

“Come in first. Aren’t you cold?” Zachary quickly put down what he was doing. The raisin congee was ready so he poured two bowls, one for each child.

Matthew brushed the snow from Taylor’s body and brought him closer to the fire, letting him warm up while drinking the hot congee.
