Chapter 215 You Smell So Good

Zachary’s fingers had gone completely stiff around the edge of the beast–hide bag. Every time the bag grew a little heavier, he wanted to throw both the snakes and the bag as far away as he could.
Quincy helped him tie the mouth of the beast–hide bag shut. “I’ll help you carry it back.”
“I–It’s fine.” Goose bumps had already risen along Zachary’s arms, but he knew there would be more situations like this in the future. He couldn’t rely on others for everything.
Just as he was about to sling it over his shoulder, Taylor and Jaden ran oyer. Both cubs had snow all over their heads, but their cheeks were flushed from running.
One in front and one behind, the two cubs lifted the bag and carried it toward home.
Part of Zachary felt that he was far too cowardly. Another part of him was relieved to be away from the snakes. On the way home, he was stuck between those two feelings the entire time.
He wasn’t paying attention, and the road was slippery. He stumbled several times, but luckily, Matthew was quick enough to steady him.
Jaden and Taylor brought the beast–hide bag home. The moment they opened it, both cubs froze.
Why are there so many snakes?
The two cubs looked at each other. Neither of them could figure out what was going on.
Matthew was holding Zachary’s hand. Before they even reached the entrance of their cave, they saw a pile of brown snakes tangled together on the snowdrift outside the door.
Jaden and Taylor were crouching there, completely at a loss.
The clash between brown and white was far too strong. With the way the snakes were packed together, anyone would feel their heart tighten at the sight. Someone with trypophobia might have their soul leave their body on the spot.
Jaden and Taylor heard the movement and looked up.
r
Matthew’s questioning gaze fell on Jaden’s face, “You wanted the snakes?”
‘No, it was me. I wanted them.” Zachary quickly explained.
Matthew turned his head toward him at once, his eyes full of confusion. “You?”
“Yeah.” Zachary pulled him forward. “The people in the tribe… said snake meat tastes good, so I wanted to try it.”
But the body’s instinctive fear was very hard to hide perfectly.
When Zachary got close to the snake pile, his shoulders trembled almost imperceptibly, and his gaze snapped away almost at once.

Matthew didn’t say anything. After they entered the cave, he took off Zachary’s cloak, which was covered in snow, shook it out, and hung it on the rack beside the fire. Then he pressed the chilled Zachary down beside the fire to sit.
After that, he went outside, picked the snakes into a basket, and carried them to the river.
When Matthew came back, the snakes that had looked so terrifying earlier had already been gutted, skinned, cleaned, and chopped into small sections.
The pink meat looked much easier on the eyes.
Matthew didn’t bring them into the cave. Instead, he buried them directly in the snowdrift by the entrance, the one they used specially for keeping food cold.
Every day, Zachary checked the wounds on Matthew’s body and carefully applied medicine for him. But perhaps because the wounds were too deep, or because the weather was too cold, they healed very slowly.
Matthew himself didn’t care, of course. But every time he saw Zachary looking upset, he decided to go to Bruce and see if there was any stronger medicine.
Ever since Bruce and Donald had talked things through, they had quietly begun living together. Of course, it was Donald who packed up his things and moved into Bruce’s home.
Bruce hadn’t fully recovered before, so Donald didn’t dare make any reckless moves. Bruce took advantage of that and teased him now and then, even trying to use it to turn the tables and take the upper hand.
So, to slowly wear down Donald’s will, Bruce decided to take a softer approach. He used every trick he had, gradually getting Donald used to being “served.”
Hands, lips, and every kind of teasing came into play.
The poor old bachelor was so worked up that his nosebleeds wouldn’t stop.
Bruce felt that the time had come. He specially took out an ointment he had prepared himself and felt very pleased with how thoughtful he was.
After all, there weren’t many people as considerate as him.
r
However, Donald only took it as Bruce inviting him. Heat rushed through his blood in excitement. He snatched the ointment from Bruce’s hand, and before Bruce could speak, Donald suddenly got up and pressed him beneath him.
“N–No… That’s not it!”
“Get up!”
“Don’t…”
“Bruce, you smell so good… Bruce, thank you…” Donald was completely absorbed in his great campaign of claiming new territory.
“Donald!”

Matthew, who had come over with his injuries, looked at the tightly shut wooden door, then raised his head in confusion. It had only just gotten a little dark. Something wasn’t right.
Just as he was about to knock, he suddenly stopped. Then his pupils shrank sharply, as if he had discovered something extraordinary.
Outside, Matthew felt guilty for the first time, as if he were the one doing something wrong. When he turned around, even his footsteps became much lighter.
Halfway back, he casually stopped Kyle, who had come over to get frostbite medicine.
Matthew’s expression didn’t change. “Go back. Mr. Bruce isn’t there.
“Hm? He isn’t there?” Kyle asked in confusion.
Matthew said, “I have frostbite medicine at my place. Go get it from me.”
“That works too.”
After dinner, Zachary sat by the fire and applied medicine to Matthew’s wounds. As he did, he casually asked whether Matthew had gotten any new medicine from Bruce today.
“Mr. Bruce was busy.”
“Busy with what?“.
Matthew leaned close to Zachary’s ear and said something.
Zachary’s eyes instantly widened. “Oh my God!”
“Mr. Bruce and Donald?” Zachary took quite a while to process it. “But they’re both therians, so how…”
Matthew naturally wrapped his arms around Zachary’s waist. Seeing that shocked little expression on his face, he couldn’t help laughing.
୮
“When did this happen?” Zachary’s curiosity had been fully stirred up. “Which one of them made the first move?”
