Sunlight filtered through the morning mist and fell onto the ground. The cool breeze carried a slight chill as it brushed against their arms.

You’ve finally put on some weight.Zachary picked up the little black panther, weighed him in his arms, and smiled.

Yeah! The cub wrapped his fluffy paws around Zachary’s neck and nuzzled his face with his nose.

The family of three took a walk through the nearby forest.

Matthew taught Jaden hunting techniques, while Zachary leaned against a tree trunk nearby and watched.

Open your mouth wider. It’ll make you look fiercer. Put more force into it.Matthew casually picked up a small stick and tapped the cub on the head.

Jaden bared his sharp little fangs and began growling.

Matthew tapped his thick paw again. Lower your back, keep your tail straight, and gather strength in your whole body.

Alright, pounce!

At the command, Jaden used all his strength and lunged at the stick Matthew threw, biting and tearing at it with a series of fierce movements.

Zachary had also taught the child a couple of moves like grabbing the opponent’s head and throwing them down, or hooking a leg while holding onto the shoulders. The child had learned them seriously back then, and even after shifting into beast form, he didn’t forget to use them while fighting.

Later on, when the cubs in the tribe played and sparred, there was a little black panther especially skilled at headthrows.

But those moves didn’t work on Matthew. In the face of absolute strength, everything else was useless.

After returning home, Zachary washed the locust flowers from the basket, scooped out two bowls, mixed them with the last of the flour in the house, and spread the mixture onto leaves placed over the steaming

rack.

Then, he took a few eggs from storage and stirfried a large plate of locust flowers with eggs.

The steamed locust flowers came out soft and fragrant. Paired with a dipping sauce, each bite felt like spring bursting across the taste buds.

Taylor came over carrying fruit, hoping to join the meal. Zachary, I brought you some fruit!

He had come with a whole basket of mulberries and raspberries. The deep shade of purple mixed with the bright red looked beautiful.

Jaden shifted slightly to the side, making space for Taylor, who sat down and gulped as he stared at the food. It smells amazing!

Zachary smiled and added another set of utensils to the table. Over the past few days, Taylor had been running all over the mountains with Yael and hadn’t come by as often. Zachary found himself missing his

presence.

These fragrant flowers are so delicious! When Taylor learned it was made from locust flowers, his eyes lit up. He happily swung his legs as he ate, his cheeks stuffed with food.

The hunting team returned to the tribe. After they were done, Zachary followed Matthew to collect their share of food. Besides meat, he also asked for a lot of animal organs that most didn’t likeespecially gruntbeast intestines. Zachary practically took all of them.

Naturally, the task of cleaning them fell to Matthew. Carrying the heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, and intestines, he headed straight to the river.

Zachary didn’t go. He stayed home, figuring out how to smoke the cured meat.

Spring meant plenty of food. One hunt could last for days, and since therians took turns hunting, they had a lot of free time.

Kyle and the others were bored out of their minds, so they went to bother Matthew. They were very curious why he needed so many organsafter all, it wasn’t the cold season when food was scarce.

What are you doing?Yael whistled, pretending not to know.

Matthew glanced at him calmly and ignored him.

The group of therians squatted in a neat row, all staring at Matthew’s hands as he worked. Not only did they not help, but they also started chatting away.

Matthew was utterly annoyed by this. Move,” he said flatly.

You’d feel lonely, doing it alone. Isn’t it nice we’re keeping you company?

Did you make Zachary mad?

Is he refusing to feed you, so you’ve resorted to eating these organs in secret?

It’s fine, come to my placeI’ve got plenty of meat.

They kept talking over one another, making Matthew’s head throb.

Matthew asked, Are you leaving or not?

Nope,they replied in unison.

Matthew said nothing more. He stepped back a couple of paces, his expression calm as he lifted the half- cleaned pig intestines in his hand, then swung them toward the group.

Ugh! Ew!

Hey!

Yael and the others got splashed in the face with the dirty water from the intestines and immediately jumped up, scrambling away.

Matthew flicked the intestines, sending droplets flying. Looks like they’re not fully cleaned yet. It smells a

bit.

They instantly behaved, retreating several feet away. Go ahead, go ahead. You do your thing.

But before long, Daniel suddenly stood up and pointed toward the west side of the tribe, shouting, Is that a fire over there?

Kyle followed his gaze. That’s a lot of smoke!

Yael took one look at the direction and realized something was off. He immediately shouted at Matthew, Go back and check!

Before he even finished speaking, Matthew had already shifted into beast form and dashed off into the distance. The others quickly followed.

Meanwhile, Zachary was bent over, holding an armful of pine leaves and tea branches, tossing them onto the pile of firewood.

The cave didn’t have good ventilation, so he decided to smoke the cured meat outside. He had worked hard to move over a wooden rack, hung up the marinated meat, and built a simple shed using branches and wood.

But the pine leaves still held too much moisture. The moment he tossed them onto the fire, thick smoke billowed up. Anyone standing too close would have their eyes watering uncontrollably, but he knew he’d succeeded.

The fire needed constant attention, so Zachary sat not far away, occasionally adding wood and turning the

meat.

By the time Matthew and the others rushed over, people from the tribe were already hurrying in with buckets of water in hand.
