‘Huh?” Yael noticed him suddenly go quiet.

Matthew’s eyes locked onto a passing sub–therian.

Frowning in confusion, Yael asked, “What’s wrong?”

The next second, Matthew bolted forward.

‘Hey!” The moment Yael saw Matthew grab the sub–therian by the arm, his heart nearly stopped. He immediately turned to look at Zachary.

Wait, seriously? Buddy! Is he really going for it right now? Is he done with Zachary already? No way. He needs to let go right now. Get back here!

For a second, Yael even wondered if those grilled bugs had fried Matthew’s brain. Panicking, he hurried

after him.

Kyle and the others were stunned, too. They exchanged looks and had already mentally prepared themselves to pick sides.

Zachary honestly did not think much of it at first, but the moment he saw how serious Matthew looked, his chest tightened. Worried something had happened, he quickly headed over too.

Kyle and the others assumed Zachary was marching over to throw hands, which only made them panic harder.

He swallowed hard, threw an arm around Matthew’s shoulders, and lowered his voice. “Buddy, let go first. We can’t be those heartless as holes, alright? This kinda thing gets therians hated. Come on, let go first.”

Matthew completely ignored him. His eyes stayed locked onto the sub–therian in front of him. Flames practically seemed ready to burst out of his golden eyes. “Where did you get the thing around your neck?”

The sub–therian immediately covered the necklace at his throat, full of caution. “What do you want?”

The veins on the back of Matthew’s hand bulged violently. His voice turned terrifyingly cold. “Where did you get it?”

The sub–therian was clearly frightened by the dark look on his expression. “S–Someone else g–gave it to

me…”

“Who?”

Yael glanced between the two of them in confusion. This definitely didn’t look like love at first sight or a secret crush. He could not help letting out a relieved breath, and when he looked at Zachary again, his expression relaxed a lot more.

Kyle and the others stayed close behind, sleeves already rolled up and fully prepared to break up a fight at any second.

Ethan leaned toward Daniel. “We’ll hold Matthew down in a minute.”

Daniel lowered his voice. “What about Zachary?”

Kyle snorted. “With how tiny Zachary is, Matthew can take a couple punches. He’ll live.”

Daniel thought that sounded reasonable. “Then the three of us will pin Matthew down and let Zachary blow off some steam.”

Ethan nodded. “Sounds good.”

Zachary walked over, and the moment he raised his hand, everyone tensed up, ready to move. After all, if Matthew dared to strike back at Zachary, they would swarm in immediately and tie that “heartless male” up so he could be held accountable.

However, Zachary only gently held the back of Matthew’s hand and said softly, “Can you let go first? We’re all here. He isn’t going anywhere.”

Jaden and Taylor were also worried. Their small faces were tightly drawn.

“That’s my Sire’s necklace.” Matthew’s voice was hoarse, his eyes filled with an indescribable pain and emptiness. “My Alpha made it himself. My Sire was wearing it the day he leaved.”

Daniel’s eyes widened. “All of them?”

“You don’t want to?”

“No problem.” Zachary stepped forward. “But you need to send someone to take us there.”

“Of course. Someone will come find you in a few days.”

After the Black–winged Kite Tribe therians left, Matthew sat quietly in the corner behind the stall, still staring at the necklace in his hand. He stayed lost in thought for a long time.

Zachary didn’t know what had happened back then, so he went to ask Yael and the others.

After a brief silence, Donald spoke, “That was a year before you came to our tribe. Looking back now, it might have been a sign of the beast tide. It was the rainy season. The weather was hot and humid, and food couldn’t be stored.

“It rained nonstop for over half a month. The tribe’s supplies ran low, so Chief Alfred led the therians out hunting in the heavy rain. I went with them. Matthew’s Alpha was among them.

“We ran for two full days before we found a herd of long–maned beasts. They were fast, and the rain made it even harder. We struggled to take down a few. But just as we were about to return to the tribe, we were caught by a wolf pack.”
