Chapter 269 Another New Recipe
Seeing the patient avoid treatment out of fear, Matthew felt a sense of regret.
Zachary nudged him with his elbow. “You’re hugging me too tight. I can’t breathe.”
“Stop wandering your hands all over me,” he added.
Matthew lowered his voice. “I’m just trying to cop a feel, that’s all.”

The finished sweet potato starch and potato starch turned out very well. They were a bright shade of white, and when pinched, they easily crumbled into a fine powder.
Zachary planned to process them further, making two different types of noodles. They stored well and could be cooked in many ways.
Matthew wasn’t home, and the therians had been busy again lately, so Zachary asked Quincy to help.
Elias was there too. Although Zachary and Quincy didn’t let him do much, having Elias chatting beside them made the work far more enjoyable.
Avery and Jeremy happened to pass by. When they saw what was going on, they asked if they could help with anything. They were both kind and attentive people, so Zachary smiled and accepted.
Sweet potato starch had to be diluted with water first, then mixed with salt into a slurry, and poured into boiling water to form a semi–transparent paste for the springy noodles.
Next, they needed a large strainer, but there wasn’t one at home. Zachary found a stone and a pointed stone rod, and began chiseling small holes into a wooden plate.
It looked simple, but it was actually quite laborious. Strike after strike, their hands grew red from the friction. They took turns, and in the end, it turned out fairly decent.
Meanwhile, the paste cooled into a smooth dough. Placing it on the wooden strainer and pressing it down, thin strands of noodles dropped into the boiling water. After cooking briefly and rinsing in cold water, they were ready.
Elias and the others stared at the long, thin strands in the pot, feeling amazed. They were slippery and impossible to grasp with their utensils, In fact, they were more agile than fish in the river.
The chewy noodles were made in a similar way. Zachary kept some of the diluted potato starch paste, steamed it directly, then cut it into narrow strips to make the noodles.
Some were eaten fresh, while the rest were dried for long–term storage.
Once Zachary’s mouth no longer hurt, he wanted a bowl of the spicy chili noodles he had been craving for so long.
Since it was for themselves, he didn’t hold back on the ingredients. He diced some meat and stir–fried it into a sauce, fried peanuts, and added scallions, garlic, and bird’s eye chili. A sprinkle of pepper powder,

then hot oil poured over to release the aroma.

He added the cooked springy noodles, then poured in some hot water–ideally it would be bone broth, but making that would take too long, so he made a simpler version of it.
He also added some previously pickled vegetables and bamboo shoots. Without vinegar, he used the juice of a sour fruit that tasted very similar. In the end, the rich red, oily dish was so fragrant it made mouths water just from the smell.
Yael, who had been on patrol, seemed to have some kind of built–in scent radar. Following the aroma, he wandered over, pretending to look from a distance. But the moment Zachary waved him over, he happily trotted closer.
The taste was tangy and refreshing, leaving a lingering flavor that left people wanting more.
Soon after, Ethan and the others who were on patrol began to show up one after another, as if they were checking in on purpose–every so often, a new face would appear.
Fortunately, Zachary had made plenty. He welcomed them all with a smile. After all, a full stomach meant they’d have the strength to protect the tribe.
Daniel mistook the noodles for worms and said in shock, “Are these bugs edible?”
Hearing that, Zachary glanced down at his bowl. Suddenly, he felt uneasy, and even the noodles he was chewing started to feel strange.
Yael reached out. “If you’re not eating it, give it to me.”
Daniel shook his head repeatedly. “No way. Whatever Zachary makes is bound to taste good, even bugs!”
“I made spicy chili noodles, Daniel. They’re not worms,” Zachary said. If he didn’t explain now, he wouldn’t even be able to look at the dish anymore.
“I see.” Daniel took a big bite, his eyes lighting up. “These are way smoother than worms. Chewier too. Delicious!”
Zachary was flabbergasted. Why was he comparing it to worms?
That night, Matthew got the deluxe version–a large bowl of spicy chili noodles made with pure bone broth, with ingredients filling nearly a third of the bowl.
Taylor and Jaden ate happily as well, devouring everything to the last drop. Their lips turned bright red from the spice, yet they still wanted another bowl.
Before long, it became one of the Black Panther Tribe’s signature dishes. The stall was set up next to the fruit tea stand, the two forming a perfect combo. It soon became a must–have for visitors from afar.
Spring rain fell continuously for several days. The market operated on a rotation system, and everything proceeded in an orderly manner.
With nothing much to do, Zachary began making clothes after meals. He had already sketched the designs

earlier, but had only managed to work on them bit by bit since he’d been busy.

Soft beast hides were suitable for coats and vests. The fabrics from the merfolk were perfect for shirts. short sleeves, and pants light, breathable, and extremely comfortable to wear.
The door wasn’t fully closed. Wind blew in from outside, and the rain gradually dampened the stone at the entrance of the cave.
Matthew and the other therians had gone out to check the traps.
Jaden had shifted into his beast form, curling up on the mat beside Zachary’s legs. He rolled over now and then, hugging the doll his father had made for him, gently nibbling at it. After a while, he sat up again, tucking his fluffy paws close, tilting his head as he watched the needle and thread moving back and forth in Zachary’s hands.
