Chapter 292 They Are Home

Zachary and Matthew became so absorbed in their work that they didn’t realize morning had arrived until after they’d put the final version to the test.

Matthew immediately felt like they’d squandered a rare evening alone together, which stung a bit. But Zachary’s yawns were so huge that tears streamed down his face, so Matthew simply picked him up and carried him off to bed for some rest.

Since they’d pulled an all–nighter, they ended up sleeping straight through till the afternoon. When they finally woke up both felt groggy and disoriented.

Zachary’s stomach emitted a low, persistent growl, a sentiment echoed by Matthew’s own hunger pangsye the creatures lurking beyond the cave’s threshold were undeniably more famished.

Come evening, the cubs finally returned to their tribe.

On the walk back, Taylor was strangely silent. Whenever an adult greeted him, Jaden spoke on his behalf, and everyone found this behavior quite odd.

Yael was splitting firewood outside the cave. When he saw the cubs return, he asked curiously, “What’s inside that bag? It’s so packed you can’t even fasten it.”

Taylor showed Yael the ostrich eggs and then disappeared straight into the cave.

Yael reached out, snatched the back of the boy’s collar, and pulled him back. “What’s wrong with you?

“Why the gloomy face?

“Did you make a fool of yourself during the hunt? Did some prey beast knock you into the mud?”

While talking, he lifted the cub under the arms and held him up in the sunlight, examining him from all sides. “You seem fine to me. No swelling, no scratches.”

Taylor wriggled and kicked, his mouth opening and closing rapidly. “Put me down!”

“Why do you sound like you’re whistling when you speak?” Yael narrowed his gaze. He tilted his head, then gasped. “Hold on. What happened to your teeth?”

Jaden explained, “Taylor’s baby teeth are falling out.”

Yael burst out laughing immediately. “So that’s it… Hahahaha! Those two enormous dark holes could swallow up our cave entrance and still have room to spare!”

Taylor snapped back, “Have you never lost a single tooth before?

“What’s so hilarious about this?”

“But I just find it funny.” Yael shrugged as if it was out of his control. Then he glanced at faden’s composed expression and looked genuinely impressed. “You can keep a straight face through that? Well, that’s really impressive.”

Quincy heard the commotion and stepped outside.

Taylor leaped into Quincy’s arms, crying, “Sire, look at what Alpha’s doing!

“He’s not behaving like an adult at all!”

Yael only laughed harder. “Hey, calm down. Watch the drool. Don’t get it all over your sire.”

Taylor stuck out his lower lip. “Sire! Alpha is so cruel!”

Quincy gave his mate a look, then comforted the cub. “Your alpha is only messing with you. Pay him no attention. Let me take a look. Does it hurt at all?”

Yael leaned in, stirring up more trouble. “Can you still manage to chew meat?

“What if those teeth never come back?

“You’ll be a little old man with no teeth.”

Taylor shot Yael a dirty look. “When you get old and every single one of your teeth falls out, I’ll force you to gnaw on huge bones every single day!”

Yael remained smug. “Your sire would never allow you to do that to me. He adores me too much.”

Taylor turned to Quincy with hopeful eyes. “Sire, would you let me?”

“Yeah, sure, I’d let you.” Concluding that Yael was far more manageable than Taylor, Quincy gave an eager succession of nods. “He can chew on rocks for all I care.”

Taylor flashed a triumphant grin and pointed at the huge boulder outside the cave where they dried things. “When the time comes, I’ll hand Alpha that giant boulder to sink his teeth into.”

Yael put on a wounded expression. “Quincy…”

Quincy let out a sigh, feeling like he was parenting two cubs at once

Zachary was bent over the cow enclosure, watching Matthew milk the cows. When he heard the boy’s voice. he spun around, and a smile brightened his face. “Jaden, you’re home!”

At the same moment, the little moo beast let out an excited bleat.

The ostrich eggs looked massive in Jaden’s hands. He had to clutch both of them against his chest.

Zachary had never seen a real ostrich egg before. He held them like precious treasures, rotating them and even tapping lightly on their shells.

Jaden looked up at him. “Sire, do you like them?”

“Of course I do! I love them!” Zachary scooped up the boy and showered him with praise.

Jaden’s ears popped out on their own and began to twitch. He dropped his head, suddenly feeling shy.

Zachary took Jaden over to see the toy he had crafted.

The boy pushed the little cart around the cave again and again, with the little moo beast trotting happily behind him. Both of them were absolutely delighted.

Dinner that night was a feast–coconut chicken soup, pineapple fried rice, and salted egg yolk ribs. Jaden wasn’t a picky eater and devoured everything, which made Zachary beam with pride. He was so focused on Jaden that he didn’t even notice Matthew pouting. Feeling neglected, Matthew grabbed a meatless bond a tossed it into the boy’s bowl.

Before bedtime, when Jaden showed up at the bedside hugging his little pillow, Matthew’s teeth practically started itching with irritation.

But the cub had gotten clever. He pretended not to see Matthew at all and scrambled straight into Zachary’s arms, earning two sweet kisses.

Matthew thought this was completely unfair. Even though he was a full–grown man, he insisted on lying in Zachary’s arms too.

Zachary had no choice but to sleep flat on his back. For the first time, he felt genuinely thankful that humans had two arms. Otherwise, there simply wouldn’t be enough of him to go around.

The next day, just as Jaden was about to pull his little cart over to find Taylor, he suddenly felt a heavy weight after taking only a few steps.

He spun around and saw Matthew sitting right in the middle of the cart.

Jaden quickly inspected the cart. When he saw that it wasn’t damaged, he let out a quiet breath of relief.
