Chapter 331 Strengthened Protection
Matthew said, “I forgot”
Zachary pushed him. “Get up and make something to eat. You can’t go on a journey hungry.”
Matthew’s fingers hooked onto the edge of his waistband. “I’ve already eaten.”
“In that case, you should–hey!” Zachary was suddenly pushed back onto the bed.

Matthew got out of bed looking refreshed. He bent down, cupped Zachary’s face, and kissed him several times before saying gently, “There’s warm food in the pot. Don’t forget to eat, alright? I’ll be back soon. If anything happens, go to my parents.”
After being thoroughly manhandled by Matthew, Zachary’s earlier reluctance completely disappeared. Even when he tried to hit him, his strength was soft and weak.
Matthew leaned his face into Zachary’s palm, kissed his fingers, then buried his face in his neck and took a few deep breaths before finally straightening up. “I’m leaving.”
“Why don’t you sleep in for a bit? It’s hot–don’t go out at noon. If anything needs delivering, let Jaden do it.”
Zachary still hadn’t fully recovered, and his voice was raspy. “Be careful.”
“Okay.” Matthew had already reached the cave entrance, but turned back to kiss him twice more. “I’m going.”
Yael and the others were already waiting in the center of the tribe, carrying beast–hide bags and bows on their backs.
Matthew was surprised when he saw them. “Why are you here?”
Yael slung an arm over his shoulder. “How could we let you go alone? It’s the perfect chance anesthetic Bruce made, and the improved weapons Zachary designed.”
to try the new
Donald’s bag was filled with medicine that Bruce had prepared, even including heat–relief herbs. He asked Matthew, “Well, what’s it going to be? The Hyena Tribe first, or the Black–winged Kite Tribe?”
Matthew said, “The Hyena Tribe.”
Daniel nodded in agreement. “We should’ve dealt with them long ago!”
The vulture tribe’s therians had come as well. With them flying ahead, the journey would be cut by more
than half.
Even after the last lesson, the hyena therians still hadn’t changed. They continued to act as bandits along the routes other tribes used to trade for salt–ambushing, attacking, and surrounding unsuspecting

therians. Their reputation was utterly foul.

Matthew and the others kid in the grass and slowly approached. Once they were close enough, arrows coated with anesthetic shot out instantly toward the hyena pack. Soon after, the black panther lunged forward with a low growl.
Screams of terror rose one after another. Matthew’s gaze was cold and dark–old grudges and new would be settled once and for all.
By the riverside, Yael and the others all had some injuries, but every one of them wore relaxed smiles. After all, if they didn’t make an example this time, it would only invite more tribes to cover them.
Donald took out herbs from his bag, and Yael handed them to Matthew. This man always charged at the front, and there were quite a few bite marks on his shoulders and arms. They weren’t deep, but the blood made them look frightening.
In the past, Matthew wouldn’t have cared about such wounds. Now, however, he carefully cleaned them, applied plenty of medicine, and even checked them again under the firelight.
Yael teased, “Since when do you value your life this much? Or are you afraid Zachary will find out?”
Matthew glanced at him, slowly wiped his hands clean, then suddenly pressed down on Yael’s leg.
Yael jumped up immediately. “You’re vicious!”
Matthew said calmly, “If you can still jump around, it means it doesn’t hurt.”
Zachary made pear soup for Jaden for several days in a row. Combined with the medicine from the shaman, the child’s throat had fully recovered.
Taylor was the happiest. “Jaden, say something! Let me hear your voice!”
Jaden thought for a moment, unsure what to say.
r
Taylor’s round eyes gleamed, his little tiger teeth peeking out. “Just say that I’m your best friend. Say it!”
Jaden said, “Taylor is my best, best, best friend.”
Taylor grinned widely and hugged his arm. “Jaden is my best, best, best friend too.”
Chonk came over and mooed.
Taylor patted its head. “Got it, you’re our good friend too.”
The defensive structures around the Black Panther tribe were now fully completed, and the internal layout was orderly. At a glance, it looked almost like a newly built modern village.
There were more therians on daily patrol now. With less pressure from hunting, manpower had become more abundant. Patrols were scheduled throughout the day, especially around the back mountain where

the cubs liked to go–adults on patrol could be seen there almost all the time.

Zachary wasn’t bored either. In the mornings and evenings, he would take Jaden, Taylor, and Little Baldy strolling through the marketplace, or head to the nearby stream to catch shrimp and fish, experimenting with new foods.
His days were full, but once night fell and he lay in bed, his thoughts would drift to Matthew, who was out hunting. Luckily, Jaden stayed by his side. The father and son would chat for a bit before sleepiness took
over.
It was originally supposed to be a week, but Matthew only returned to the tribe on the eighth day. The group was drenched in sweat. After dropping off their prey, they ran straight to the river to wash up.
At that time, Zachary was at the marketplace, trading with the marmot tribe. They had brought a batch of grains–corn, peanuts, and other nuts.
When he heard the news, Zachary grabbed the handcart and headed home. Halfway there, he suddenly felt a weight on it. Turning his head, he saw Matthew, still damp, sitting on the edge of the cart, smiling as. he looked at him without blinking.
Zachary hurried over, delighted. “Matthew!”
Matthew opened his arms and hugged him. “Why didn’t you let Jaden pull the cart?”
