Chapter 350 Eat
The long overdue luch finally wrapped up, and Matthew’s mind was still circling back to that dress shop. Zachary scrambled for any excuse he could think of and landed on the price tag, claiming the clothes were just way too expensive, way more than he could afford.
Matthew looked a little disappointed, but he let it go without another word.
Zachary, on the other hand, felt a small pang of guilt twisting in his chest. To make up for it, he took the two of them up to the rooftop movie theater and picked out a big 3D animated film. By the time the credits rolled, the sun had already started sinking toward the horizon, perfect timing for a walk outside.
On their way out of the theater, Jaden needed to use the restroom, so Zachary went with him, leaving Matthew to wait on a bench in the mall.
There were quite a few design studios near the mall, and one designer’s eyes locked onto Matthew the second he spotted him. He’d been working on a handful of new outfits lately, all with a wild, untarned edge to them, and he’d been searching everywhere for the right model without any luck. The moment he saw Matthew, his eyes practically lit up like fireworks.
The designer wasted no time. “Hey there, would you be interested in modeling for me?”
“Modeling?” Matthew repeated.
“Yeah,” the designer said. “You’d just need to put on a few outfits so we can take some photos.”
Zachary’s phone could already take pictures just fine, so the offer didn’t interest Matthew in the slightest. He stood up to leave.
“The pay is really generous,” the designer added quickly.
“What’s pay?” Matthew asked.
“Huh?” The designer blinked, then launched into an explanation almost on instinct. “Pay means money. If you model for me, I’ll give you a good amount of money for it
“It’d only take about half a day.”
Matthew considered it for a moment. “Okay.”
The designer lit up with delight and immediately pulled out his phone. “Mind if I get your contact info? Just so we can stay in touch.”
Matthew’s expression turned serious. “I have a mate.”
“Huh?” The designer blinked again, but he just chalked it up to some kind of personal art statement and didn’t take offense. “How about a phone number, then?”
“I don’t have a phone,” Matthew said.
The designer’s brain seemed to short circuit for a second.

But his tuind was entirely consumed by his art at this point, and he just smiled and nodded. “Then how about tomorrow morning, eight o’clock? I’ll meet you right here?”
Matthew nodded. “Sure
Before he left, the designer, clearly still a little nervous, repeated himself several times. “Please, you have to actually show up.”
As they headed down the escalator, Matthew’s gaze drifted back toward the dress in the window one more time. A messy tangle of emotions churned through Zachary’s chest, and for one fleeting moment, his resolve nearly cracked completely. If Matthew had lowered his eyes right then and said he still wanted it. Zachary probably would’ve marched right back in and bought it on the spot without thinking twice.
But Matthew said nothing. If anything, he seemed to be in surprisingly good spirits.
Once they got home, the three of them piled onto the couch together and scrolled through the photos from earlier that day, especially the ones of all three of them together. Every single picture radiated warmth.
Around nine, Zachary sent Jaden off to shower first. Once the cub had retreated to his room, Zachary pulled out his tablet, queued up the cartoon Jaden had been watching lately, thoughtfully set him up with a pair of over ear headphones, and quietly shut the door behind him.
Maybe it was the lingering guilt over the dress, but Zachary found himself pulling Matthew into the bathroom on his own, using the shower as an excuse to let the man press him up against the sink, right in front of the mirror.
Matthew was unusually worked up, especially staring at Zachary’s reflection in the mirror, his face flushed pink and glistening with a thin sheen of sweat. It felt like every drop of blood in Matthew’s body was rushing straight to his head.
Zachary’s beautiful eyes had gone hazy and unfocused, his head dropping forward as he struggled to catch his breath. Matthew reached out and cupped his chin, tilting his face back up, the long, pale curve of his neck arching with the motion.
Everything reflected in that mirror was almost too much to bear. Zachary turned his face away and squeezed his eyes shut, refusing to look. But Matthew seemed to do it on purpose, teasing him relentlessly, coaxing him to open his eyes.
“Just one look. Please?”
“I’ll go slow.”
“Open your eyes for me.”
“Almost there.”
In front of the mirror, beneath the spray of the shower, beside the window, there was nowhere left to hide.

By the time it was over, Zachary’s legs were shaking so badly he couldn’t even stand on his own. The tile floor was slick with splashed water, and he nearly collapsed straight to his knees, but Matthew caught him just in time, dried him of helped him into clean clothes, and carried him out of the bathroom.
Zachary patted Matthew’s arm weakly. “Don’t take me to the bedroom yer
Matthew leaned down and kissed him gently. “Are you tired?”
