Chapter 349 Costume

Zachary’s jaw dropped, “You want to wear that?”

“I can’t fit into it,” Matthew said.

“Then you… Zachary’s words trailed off the moment he caught the spark flickering in Matthew’s eyes, and his face went bright red in an instant.

The salesgirl waved them inside warmly. “We’ve got a lot more new styles in the back.

“We’ve got every size in stock, so feel free to try anything on.”

This was a big city, after all, and the salesgirl had clearly seen all kinds of customers come through these doors. Whatever she’d witnessed before, she carried herself now with nothing but flawless professional composure.

“And if it’s a gift for someone, I’d be happy to help you pick something out.

“We’ve got matching shoes and socks too, by the way.

“Plus, today’s a special promotion. Buy two and get twelve percent off. Pretty great deal.

Zachary’s pale skin made every blush impossible to hide, and right now his whole face was burning. He wanted nothing more than to sink straight through the tile floor and disappear forever.

He gave the salesgirl a polite, strained smile. “We’re good, thanks so much though.”

The second those words left his mouth, he turned around and found Matthew had already strolled inside without a shred of hesitation, his eyes moving with/serious focus across every pretty little dress on the rack, listening with patient attention as the salesperson walked him through every detail.

Is this really a normal hobby for someone who grew up in the wild?

Could we maybe dial it back a notch?

Zachary stood frozen in the doorway, his whole composure unraveling. In that moment, all he wanted was to grab Jaden and bolt, leaving Matthew behind to fend for himself.

He forced his smile to stay in place, hurried inside, and grabbed Matthew’s arm. “Come on, let’s go eat.”

Matthew was completely absorbed in the dresses, his mind filled with nothing but images of his mate wearing one. Zachary pinched him hard, and that finally snapped him out of it.

“Which one do you like?” Matthew turned to him, eyes full of genuine anticipation.

The salesgirl was still standing right there watching. For the first time in his life, Zachary deeply regretted not wearing a mask. He suddenly envied birds, the way they could just bury their whole heads in their feathers and vanish.

Zachary knew better than to say “I don’t like any of them.” If he did, Matthew would absolutely ask why, and worse, he’d probably drag him into picking one out together. That would only make things infinitely

“I’m starving.” Zachary said quickly, looping his arm through Matthew’s and physically steering him toward the door. “Let’s go find food first.”

Matthew noticed how red Zachary’s face still was and looked at him with concern. “Are you feeling sick? Zachary kept his head down and kept walking. “Just hungry. I’m about to pass out from hunger.”

The salesgirl called after them, still cheerful as ever. “We’re open from nine in the morning to eight at night, so feel free to stop by anytime!”

“Sure, sure, thank you!” Zachary called back.

Jaden had been busy admiring the giant mascot statue out front the whole time, but the moment he saw his Sire and Alpha walking out, he hurried after them.

Not until they reached the fourth floor did Zachary finally let out a breath of relief, pressing both hands to his face in front of a reflective glass wall and giving his cheeks a few firm pats.

Matthew frowned and pressed his palm to Zachary’s forehead.

“I don’t have a fever.” Zachary just wanted to get Matthew’s mind onto something else, fast. He hurried both Matthew and Jaden toward the Thai restaurant he’d scouted out ahead of time.

The moment they stepped inside, the warm, exotic atmosphere of Southeast Agroria wrapped around them completely. A server handed them menus, and sure enough, Matthew and Jaden were instantly captivated by the food photos, their two heads bent together over the pages, studying every picture with intense focus.

mango risotto, tom yum soup, spicy stew, spicy crab, grilled pork, grilled fish, lemongrass chicken… Zachary ordered an enormous spread without hesitation.

The server gently warned them they might end up with more food than they could finish. Zachary just smiled and said that was fine, they could always box up the leftovers.

Of course, that assumed there’d be any leftovers at all. Given how much Matthew and Jaden could put

in one sitting, that seemed unlikely.

While they waited for the food, Zachary slipped off to the restroom. When he came back, he spotted a young guy standing beside Matthew, and as he got closer, he realized the guy was asking for his contact information.

Unfortunately, Matthew had grown up in the wild and had no idea what a phone number or a messaging app even was. The poor guy just stood there, completely thrown. Was that supposed to be a rejection? The man didn’t look slow on the uptake at all.

Zachary slid into his seat, biting back laughter, and the lie came out smooth and easy. “He’s already married. They’ve got three kids together.

“The oldest one’s already graduated from elementary school.”

“Oh… oh, really?” The guy let out an awkward laugh and turned to leave in a hurry.

Matthew turned to Zachary, clearly confused. “What’s a phone number and a messaging app?”
