Chapter 51 A Warm Place in the Storm

Matthew gently lowered Zachary onto the fur bedding and reached for his hand. It was ice-cold. He hesitated for a moment, then, after a brief pause, lay down beside him.

The moment Zachary sensed warmth nearby, he instinctively moved toward it. Curling into himself he immediately latched onto Matthew with both arms and legs, holding on tight as he burrowed deeper into

his chest.

Half-conscious, Zachary only grasped one thing: this place was safe and cozy.

Matthew’s heart hammered violently against his chest, almost causing pain. His breathing turned erratic. and his body stiffened completely. Even his hands seemed awkward, as if they had nowhere comfortable to settle.

Zachary was still trembling, though not as violently as before.

Matthew let him hold on and forced himself to remain still.

A therian’s instincts were much stronger than a human’s. Even when they perceived themselves as fully human, the beast’s nature remained buried deep within their bones.

Matthew tried to arch his back to create space, but it was brief. Zachary, sleepy and annoyed, pressed against him again immediately.

The beast-hide beneath them was firm, trapping Matthew in an even worse situation. In the end, he could only shift slightly and make a little room for himself by force.

Zachary still had both arms locked around his waist. Matthew tried to calm himself through sheer restraint, but the effort did almost nothing. It felt like tossing a single drop of water onto a blazing fire. The more he endured, the fiercer the heat inside him became.

The night fully shrouded the cave, making even the gold in Matthew’s eyes appear dark and inscrutable. His steady breathing gradually became irregular and coarse.

Still groggy, Zachary sensed the cold once more. He reached to gather the warmth, but something was blocking them. Frustrated by his discomfort, he jostled at the obstacle.

A low, muffled sound escaped from Matthew’s throat, and every muscle in his body tensed all at once.

After a struggle, Zachary finally obtained what he desired and embraced the living source of heat as if he had grabbed a massive hot-water bottle.

Matthew, trapped beneath him, slightly lowered his head and found the smallest bit of space left for himself.

His blood seemed to boil.

The veins along the back of his hand jutted out sharply. Something wild flashed in his eyes, still focused intently on the person in his arms. His long fingers gripped Zachary’s slender legs tightly enough to leave deep marks in the soft flesh.

Soft, broken sounds and sleepily blurred murmurs faintly drifted through the darkness. Surrounded by the

storm and pounding rain outside, the atmosphere between them felt strangely unreal, as if the entire night existed inside a dream.

When Zachary finally woke up, his body felt surprisingly light and refreshed. For a moment, he was genuinely confused. He had slept incredibly well.

Then he noticed the person beside him.

His mind went completely blank, and his body froze.

He was lying in Matthew’s arms, wrapped around him like a tentacle, his face nearly buried in Matthews chest. Beneath his cheek, strong muscle rose and fell steadily with each breath. The tight lines of Matthew’s abdomen disappeared further down under the blanket.

Color flooded Zachary’s face at once.

Matthew gradually opened his eyes and looked directly at him.

Zachary was about to slip away secretly, but the moment their eyes met, he jerked upright as if struck by lightning. Panic and embarrassment showed all over his face. “I… I…”

He stood there awkwardly for a long time and still couldn’t complete a single sentence.

Matthew sat up, maintaining his usual calm expression. “You got into my bed during the night, and I couldn’t wake you.”

Zachary strained to remember even a piece of what had happened, but his mind was completely blank. Still, Matthew looked much too calm to be making it up.

He rubbed his head, and suddenly, realization dawned on him. What Matthew described matches my old sleepwalking episodes. I haven’t experienced one in a while, so could the thunder over the last two days be the cause?

Humiliation rushed over him so hard he wanted to disappear on the spot. Being thrown into another world had already been bad enough. Now, even this stupid sleepwalking problem had followed him here.

Matthew observed Zachary’s changing expressions multiple times before fixing his gaze on him. “What exactly happened to you last night?”

Zachary was still dressed in only a beast-hide shirt and shorts. He rubbed his arms, drew the bedding Matthew offered closer, and let out a deep sigh. “I’ve got a condition.”

Matthew’s face sharpened immediately. “A condition? What kind?”

Zachary did not want Matthew to think he was some kind of monster, so he explained as carefully as he could. “Sometimes after I fall asleep, I lose control of myself and start doing things.”

He lowered his eyes and continued, “Walking around, moving things, running off somewhere… things like what happened last night. The next day, I don’t recall any of it when I wake up.”

This was the first time Matthew had encountered something like that. Nonetheless, after witnessing Zachary’s condition during the night, he found it easier to believe than to doubt.

“I’ll take you to the shaman,” Matthew stated as he got out of bed. “Maybe it will get better in a few days

Zachary didn’t believe that medical knowledge in this world could do much to help with sleepwalking if had gone to the hospital about it before, and all they told him was that anxiety and stress were probably the causes. He was advised to relax and get proper rest.

Thinking about what had happened, Zachary lowered his head in embarrassment. Wrapped in the bedding. he looked up at Matthew with genuine sincerity. “About last night… I’m really sorry.”

“It’s okay. I’ll get your clothes,” Matthew replied as he pulled on a robe, then turned and headed next door

The moment the door opened, Jaden’s sneaky gaze fixed right on him. “Alpha, Sire, he…”

Zachary ordered, “Go heat some water.”

“Okay!” Jaden instantly rushed to the stove. His normally serious little face was shining with barely hidden joy.

He had always wanted to have a younger brother. Based on what others had told him, cubs only appeared after Sire and Alpha slept together.

That was why, when he saw Zachary in Matthew’s room that morning, he was so excited he could hardly sit still.

Zachary quickly put on his clothes and jumped off the bed. As soon as he saw Jaden outside, his whole body tensed up.
