Matthew was faster. He shoved Hubert away without ceremony and crouched beside Zachary, reaching for his leg. “Let me check.”

A voice cut across the clearing from behind him. “So this is where you ran off to, huh?”

Horace had been out hunting wolves when he caught the strong scent of another therian nearby. Worried that Hubert had wandered into trouble, he tracked him down in a hurry.

“Matthew?” Horace knew enough about the nearby tribes to react immediately. “Drop it.”
