Trapped by Seven Mafia Wolves novel Chapter 20

**The Unplaceable End by Austen**
**Chapter 20**

**The Wake-Up Call**

**Matteo’s POV**

The sudden buzz of my phone jolts me from the depths of sleep, thrumming against the nightstand with an urgency that feels almost violent.

With a groan that echoes my reluctance to face the world, I pry one eye open, squinting at the blaring screen before snatching it up.

“This better be good,” I grumble into the receiver, my voice rough and gravelly from sleep.

“It’s Aurora.”

Leon’s voice slices through the fog of my drowsiness. It’s anything but calm. Instead, it’s clipped, each word sharp enough to cut through the haze of my mind.

The tension in his tone propels me upright in bed, heart racing.

“What do you mean she’s outside? Why the hell is she out there?”

“She’s not waking up.”

The gravity of his words hits me like a punch to the gut.

“She’s outside? What the hell do you mean?”

“She’s unconscious,” he snaps back, frustration lacing his voice. “Her fingers are blue. She’s not moving.”

For a heartbeat, I freeze, the weight of his words crashing down on me.

God, I should have said something. I should have noticed.

Aurora is small—too small, really. I’ve seen it, even if I never voiced my concerns.

Her complexion is pale, but not just in the way that skin can be fair; it’s an unsettling pallor, one that hints at something deeper—something hollow.

And she’s been quiet. Too quiet.

“Where exactly?” I bark, urgency propelling me as I leap out of bed, racing down the stairs two at a time.

“Front door. Slumped over like some dead thing.”

His tone is sharp, but beneath it, I detect something else—guilt, perhaps? Fear?
