And then I saw Pat, standing not too far away, and in front of her a woman, tall and striking and dressed like she had stepped out of a magazine, her voice sharp and venomous as she spat words at Pat. Pat stood there with her shoulders squared and her face carefully blank, taking it, the way she always took it, the way she took everything.
I knew that face.
The recognition hit me like a physical blow, a cold wave that rolled up from the base of my spine and turned the world sharp and still. That face belonged to the branch of the family that had helped destroy my father. The same jaw, the same cold beautiful cruelty in the eyes, the daughter of the man who had once made my mother weep in the kitchen while my father stood at the window with his hands in his pockets, silent. I had not seen her in years, but I would have known her anywhere.
I did not think. I did not plan. I crossed the distance and my hand moved before my mind caught up, and the crack of the slap rang out across the parking lot, loud and clean. The woman's head snapped to the side, and she stumbled back a step, one hand flying to her cheek, her eyes wide with shock and then blazing with fury.
My voice came out low and shaking. "Get off this property before I have you dragged off it."
"This is not over." Her voice dropped to a hiss, her eyes moving from me to Pat. "This is definitely not over. Neither of you will get away with this."
She turned and walked away, her heels clicking against the pavement, and I stood there with my hands shaking at my sides, my heart pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears. Pat reached for me and pulled me into her arms, and I let her hold me, breathing in the familiar scent of her perfume, grounding myself in the warmth of her.
Pat wanted this to work. She wanted him to be the man I had heard on the phone last night, the man who had sworn he would not let her down. And if I let my anger decide for her, I might ruin her one chance at happiness. I might become just another person who took the choice away from her, who told her what she should and should not feel.
Pat pulled away from the hug as his voice reached us. Without a single word to him, I turned and walked toward the entrance of Helix, and Pat followed, but I stopped before we reached the door.
I turned to face her. "He is not here for me, Pat. He is here for you. Go and speak with him. Know where you both stand."

The readers' comments on the novel: Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic)
Agent Frost better teach Tasha how to protect herself if anything gets out of hand or if she’s ever in danger or forced again...
I need some good news for Tasha. Special Agent hear her out and don’t let her get back into that life. Do I hear a romance or someone Tasha can truly count on besides Scarlett??...
I hope Tasha is let off and helped by this detective and gets away from all this maybe a twist for this novel is she gets on the good side of things and gets away from that life completely even if she has to separate herself from Scarlett but it appears Tasha gets hurt by Scarlett’s and sparrow’s stupidity as she’s blamed for Scarlett’s decisions...
Her life is ruined and Scarlett’s been living a luxurious life through it all...
I officially hate everyone for hurting Tasha and allowing things to happen to her. This whole Sparrow and Scarlett situation is some BS....
It’s a bit stupid that as powerful and ruthless sparrow is he and Scarlett sure do a lousy job of protecting and having guard on Tasha. Like how did all of this happen to her if he was supposed to be protecting her based on the contract??...
More Chapters Please...
I thought it said 10 chapters a day??? It’s been like 2-3 days and no update after chapter 574. The release time is so inconsistent, I have started to just loose interest....
Just find Tasha and get her some help. How did she have sparrow’s men watching her if she really cared so much. Scarlett’s character is so suspect…...
Storyline is interesting it’s just so much sexual content I have to skip through just find out the main context of the story....
