Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 506

He pulled out slowly and turned me around in his arms, and I sagged against his chest, boneless and laughing, and he laughed too, breathless, and kissed the top of my head.

"Was that part of the husband training?" I asked, muffled against his shoulder.

"That was the advanced course."

"I think you passed."

"I think I am going to need a lot more practice." He reached past me and turned the water off, and we stood there dripping and grinning at each other like a pair of fools, and he grabbed a towel and wrapped it around me with more care than the fabric deserved. "Come on. Bed. You have been up since dawn and it is catching up with you."

"Only because someone exhausted me."

"You love it."

"Unfortunately, yes."

I leaned down and pressed my lips to his ear, so soft and I whispered, "Even if the whole world turns to ashes, I will never let go of your hand."

He did not stir. He just breathed, slow and steady, and I kissed the tip of his nose, and then his forehead, and I lay back down beside him with my hand resting over his heart, watching his face in the moonlight, the love and the fear and the reverence all tangled up in my chest until they blurred into something I could not name.

I do not remember falling asleep. I only remember that I was still looking at him when I did.
