Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 660

TASHA

I stared at Agent Frost, waiting for the other shoe to drop. He'd just told me he wasn't going to touch me, and now he was looking at me like a man who had somewhere better to be, and I couldn't figure out either one of those things.

Because I didn't want to sleep with him. I wanted that on the record, even if the record was just the inside of my own skull. After Big Bryan, and those two men and the camera, something in me had shut a door and thrown away the key. The whole idea of a man's hands on me made my skin crawl now. And yet I'd been halfway out of my bra for a stranger with a badge, because I'd assumed that was the price I had no choice but to pay for my stupidity.

So if he wasn't collecting that price, what did he want me to do about this situation?

And there were other things I didn't understand. My hatred for Big Bryan had made me agree to anything, but if Frost wasn't interested in arresting him or killing him, then what exactly was left? If someone handed me a knife and five minutes alone with that man, tied up, I'd drive it through his heart and twist it on the way out, and I'd sleep like a baby afterward.

I opened my mouth to demand he explain exactly what he intended to do to Big Bryan when he beat me to it.

"I'm curious about something." He moved closer to me. "Your husband. Contract or not, he's a very powerful man, and he's perfectly capable of getting rid of Big Bryan. Big Bryan escaped him once, but now he is right here, under Sparrow's nose, in Sparrow's city.

It would be infinitely easier for Sparrow to deal with him now. So why didn't you tell him the truth? From the very first day Big Bryan assaulted you, if you'd gone to Sparrow, he would have helped you.

Instead, from what you've told me, Big Bryan seems so certain you'll keep your mouth shut, so certain that he built you a profile on Birdie. And you're doing exactly what he wants. I can't wrap my head around it. What was your plan, exactly?"

I was quiet for a long moment.

What was my plan? Survive the next phone call. Survive the next threat. Keep the video buried. Keep Scarlett breathing. Keep Sparrow from ever pressing play, and watch him get rid of Big Bryan.

"The contract," I finally said, my fingers finding each other in my lap. "There's a clause. If Sparrow is humiliated in any way by this mess, by a scandal, by the video going public, I owe him one billion dollars."

His eyebrows went up. "So you were scared of paying a billion dollars to Sparrow?"
