Emmett scowled, "Let's let this one slide, but there better not be a next time! I don't want my girl pleading for other guys."
Clara quickly nodded, "Elio and I are just friends, so I promise I won't plead for any other guys."
Emmett studied her face, then suddenly got up and walked toward her.
Startled, Clara took a few steps back, "Wha- what's going on?"
"Since I agreed to let Elio off the hook, you should also... do something for me in return, right?"
"…Mr. Melendez, I don’t get what you’re saying…"
"Mr. Melendez?"
"...Emmett."
Suddenly, Emmett backed her into a corner, his lips almost touching her cheek.
"We've been married for a while now; maybe we should do what married couples are supposed to do?"
Clara's heart was racing, almost leaping out of her throat.
"Aren't we... a marriage of convenience?"
"Let's see if you dare to pretend now."
Clara suddenly felt trapped.
Was she supposed to take things further with Emmett?
She abruptly pushed him away.
"Mr. Melendez, I think there might be a misunderstanding. There's no way anything can happen between us. I... I don’t want a boyfriend!"
"I'm your husband, not your boyfriend."
Thinking of that night all those years ago made Clara tremble all over.
It was a night she didn't want to remember but couldn't forget.
But then Emmett's face changed!
"Clara!"
His low growl made Clara shudder and her ears rang.
"You wouldn't care if I was with any other woman?!"
Emmett's eyes were practically shooting flames, but Clara still didn't understand why he was angry.
Don't all men have needs?
She was being understanding; what was he unhappy about?
"Calm down! If you have any preferences, just tell me! I can help you find whoever you want!"
Emmett clenched his fists.
"I don't want any other woman; I just want you!"
