Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 118

"Are you planning on dragging Elio into everything? If you don't trust me, we can—"

"Clara, if you dare utter that word, I'll make you regret it!"

Emmett bellowed, scaring Clara into swallowing her words.

“Listen here, don't even think about divorce in this lifetime, I, Emmett, don't do divorce.” He added, “Even if I kick the bucket, you ain't marrying anyone else!”

Clara frowned and thought, “I can't control whether I live or die, can I? Doesn't one person always die first? So, he's implying he'll be the first to go, right?”

Clara thought, wanting to slap herself for her thoughtlessness.

Now's not the time to be thinking about irrelevant stuff!

“Take the money; whatever I say is yours is yours.” Emmett glanced at her, murmuring, “You can even leave it to your son; I don't care.”

” Clara was stunned.

She never thought he'd agree to me leaving the property to the kid, even when he's unsure if it's his!

“My son, he! He’s too young!; I won't give it to him.” She didn't even want it herself.

Because, maybe one day, Emmett'd kick her out!

"Do whatever; give it to whoever you want."

"What about giving it to you?"

Emmett glared at her instantly.

"Never mind what I said." Clara shrugged and immediately corrected herself.

"Right, Alex, this is for your good and your mom's! This lady is pretending to be your mom to protect you and your real mom!"

Alex immediately nodded, smiling at Elio, "Sure! Whatever Mr. Milburn says, I'll follow!"

"Good boy, now eat up."

Leah looked at him and said, "Alex seems to like you!"

"Yeah, probably because I spoil him."

"No wonder you can't win Clara's heart." Leah pretended to look helpless and shrugged, "You can't teach kids like this! Alex is still young; eating junk food will affect his growth."

"Right." Elio laughed embarrassedly, "I'm a sucker for kids; I can't say no to them! So whatever they want, I get it! But you, you're acting more like a real mom! Once all this is over, you should get married. You'd make a great mom."

Leah smiled, her eyes revealing a cunning glint.
