Emmett reached out, wanting to touch Alex's hair, but Alex instinctively tried to dodge.
Luckily, Elio quickly reacted, picking up Alex and plopping him into Emmett's arms, then squinting his eyes and giving a wry smile. "Mr. Melendez, you just met your kid, it's bonding time, and I'm just a third wheel here, blocking your bonding time! Now that I've handed the kid over to you, I'll make myself scarce! If there's anything else, give me a ring."
Emmett held Alex in his arms, the soft little body stirring his emotions unfamiliarly.
But on the outside, he kept his cool, nodding, "Mmm, I'll have Clara come over later, and then we'll head back home as a family! I want to thank the Milburn family for their hospitality; the Melendez family won't forget your kindness."
"Much obliged, Mr. Melendez!" said Elio, glancing at Alex. He hated to leave, but he knew he had to. "Alex, I gotta bounce! This is your real dad; you guys should get along!"
"Mr. Milburn” Alex's eyes were welling up.
To prevent the situation from escalating, Elio quickly beat a retreat, even closing the door behind him.
In the living room, only Alex and Emmett were left.
Their first time alone, Alex cautiously glanced at Emmett, curling his lip, "Why did you bring me back? Don't you already have a son?"
Emmett was taken aback, not expecting his son to ask such a serious question.
"No matter how many kids I have, you're my son! Naturally, you come back to the Melendez family."
"Going back to the Melendez family sucks!" Alex remembered his previous visit to the Melendez household. The food was great, but he was constantly studying and being watched over.
It felt uncomfortable!
"Listening to you, it sounds like you've been to the Melendez house before?"
"Of course, I've been—Eh!" Alex blurted out, then realized he'd let the cat out of the bag.
Yes, she messed up and broke their agreement, but he decided not to dwell on it!
Seeing his son grow up healthy, intelligent, and witty, he naturally wouldn't harbor too much resentment toward a woman.
Just as Emmett was about to respond, his phone suddenly rang.
He glanced down; it was a call from his mother.
"Emmett! Did you find that son of yours?"
"Mom, I found him. He's right next to me; we'll be home soon."
"Oh, I can't wait! Can we video call now? I want to see if he looks like Aiden!"
