Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 142

"We...we're not planning on that right now. As long as Aiden and Alex grow up healthy and happy, that's all that matters."

Sophia took a deep breath. "I heard from Emmett, you have a son, right?"

Clara nodded awkwardly, "Yeah."

"I'm gonna be straight with you. I wasn't too happy about you and my son being together, because...well...I always hoped my son would end up with a woman who hasn't been around the block too many times! But now that my grandkids are so fond of you, I've put that prejudice aside!" Sophia looked at her seriously. "You can bring your child over in the future too! I'll love him just like my own grandkids! Don't stress too much. In the Melendez family, as long as you're steady and decent, without causing any embarrassment to the Melendez family or Emmett, you're good!"

"I'll keep that in mind."

"As long as you understand. From now on, we're family. I'm getting old, I might mess up sometimes, feel free to tell me! I won't get mad, we can talk things out calmly."

Clara nodded, "Okay."

"Go on now, I'm gonna head back to my room."

"Sure."

Watching Sophia leave, Clara couldn't help but feel envious of Emmett.

He was so lucky to have a mother who understood and cared for him, always looking out for his best interests! As for her own father...if not for the money, he wouldn't even remember he had a daughter.

When Emmett arrived at his company, Ricardo came out to greet him and followed him around.

"Don't worry, Mr. Melendez. As soon as she got here, I made sure everyone else left. I promise no one else has seen her except me!"

"I'm not scared! And...you can't do that." Leah bit her lip, looking at him defiantly. "I'm their mother. If you do anything to me, how will you explain that to them when they find out? I am their biological mother, that's a fact that can't be changed."

Emmett was taken aback.

He had to admit, Leah was right.

But...

"You should know, I'm married now. You shouldn't have any expectations of me."

"If I had any expectations, why didn't I bring the kids back to be raised by both of us all these years?" Leah retorted. "I've been avoiding you this whole time!"
