Emmett stared into her eyes, silent for quite a while, then shrugged, "Nah, I don't want to push you."
What was he really after?
All he wanted was for Clara to be a normal wife, to share her social life with him, to just chat about her day.
But every time he conversed with Clara, he felt she was deliberately keeping her distance.
He wanted to understand her better, but without resorting to certain measures, he couldn’t get any information out of her.
Was he not a good enough husband?
"Emmett, don't be mad!" Clara felt stuck between a rock and a hard place, "I can't control my friend's thoughts. If she doesn't want to meet you, I can't force her."
"I get it." Emmett patted his thigh, "Come sit."
"Huh?"
Emmett pulled her over and made her sit on his lap.
This made Clara blush.
"You... this isn't appropriate, is it? We're in the office."
"What's inappropriate? You're my wife, who dares to comment?"
Clara really wanted to shut him up right then.
"Can you not do this? If people hear, they'll have more criticisms against me. I've already dealt with enough suspicion and misunderstanding in the office, how am I supposed to continue working?"
Emmett smiled and kissed her.
Caught off guard, Clara forgot to resist. By the time she remembered, her face was as red as an apple.
"You..."
"You're already a mother and you're still blushing like a little girl!" She was truly adorable.
