"I get that I'm your wife, but you need to check your attitude."
"So you're saying I screwed up?" Emmett had never been so delicate with anyone in his life; hell, he'd given Clara his all. But she leaned towards another man.
How was he supposed to swallow that?
Clara knew they'd end up in a shouting match if things kept going this way.
So, she took a deep breath to cool her jets.
"Emmett, I goofed. I shouldn't have been covering for Taylor earlier. I should have checked on you first." Clara made the first move, grabbing his hand. "This is the last time, I swear. I won't do this again, okay?"
Emmett shot her a look, "Are you sure? Can you let go of your past with Taylor?"
Even without knowing the nitty-gritty, Emmett could guess they must have been head over heels.
Otherwise, Clara wouldn't give a damn about Taylor.
He knew Clara was a person with deep feelings and a warm heart.
It must have taken a lot from her to let Taylor in.
For this reason, he was scared Clara still had feelings for Taylor. What would that make him? A wrench in their relationship?
"Why would I lie to you?" Clara said with a laugh, leaning her head on his shoulder. "I know you're just green with envy."
"I am not!" Emmett instantly denied it.
But it made Clara laugh.
"Emmett, you always say I'm a lousy liar, but aren't you the same? Even a chump like me can see through you."
And doing it every day, doesn't he feel worn out?
"If the punishment isn't heavy enough, I'm afraid you won't learn your lesson!" Emmett laughed, "You asked for it, so you got to go along with whatever I say."
"Or else I might do something to Taylor!"
That name always gave Clara the heebie-jeebies, "Fine, fine, fine, I'll let you have it four times! But not too long each time, maximum... maximum forty minutes!"
Otherwise, she'd be dead on her feet!
"That's not for you to decide!"
It's like a lamb walking into the lion's den; the lion decides how it wants to eat, right?
