Inside Alex's room, he wasn't sleeping at all. Ever since he got in touch with Aiden, it was like he had unlocked a whole new world.
"Aiden, I still crave the food your chef made. It’s so damn good!" Alex said.
Aiden paused on the other end, sounding helpless. "Weren't you supposed to ask me for help with your homework?"
"Yeah! But, can't we have a little chat?" Alex pouted, "Sure, studying is important, but a full stomach matters more!"
"Don't forget our plan!"
"How could I forget? And if all else fails, I'll just introduce some other guy to my mom! Men are a dime a dozen, right?"
"You!" Aiden said angrily, "How can you just change your mind so nonchalantly?"
"I'm just saying, just in case!" Alex chuckled, "Your dad is still my top choice,!"
"It should be our dad!"
"Alright, alright. Our dad!" Alex sighed.
His brother was great in every other way. He was just too serious! He couldn’t even take a joke, just like their stone-faced father!
"Open your book, to the fourth page from the end...."
Alex sighed, reluctantly pulling out his book. He suddenly wished his mom could just stay single. At least...he wouldn't have to study late at night!
...
Emmett got home and headed straight for the study. After several video conferences with the head of the overseas branch, he suddenly saw a small figure at the stair turn.
It was Aiden. He was on his phone saying something, flipping through a book with one hand, like a mini teacher.
As Emmett approached, Aiden heard him, quickly closing his book and hanging up the phone.
"Good evening," Aiden said, awkwardly, "Father."
Emmett stayed silent.
"Is it because of my mom?" Aiden caught up, looking into his father's eyes, "Did she do something wrong back then that upset you?"
Emmett hadn't thought about how to explain his mother to him; he was at a loss for words.
"Then why did you keep me and not let me leave with my mom? Why did mom leave? Was it because she cheated?"
Emmett frowned, "You're so young for these words to be coming out of your mouth! What are your teachers teaching you?"
"It has nothing to do with my teachers." Aiden stood firm in front of Emmett, "I want to know what my mom did wrong."
"You don't have a mom."
"I don't have a mom. I was picked up from the trash. I was won in a lottery. I was found on the side of the road. You don't have to tell me these lies, Dad! I've read a biology book."
Emmett said, "You...how do you know everything?"
