"Did anyone in the design department take a shine to you?" Emmett sauntered over, slinging an arm around her waist.
"I've got my nose in the grindstone. I haven't thought about that. Plus, what could I possibly do under your watchful eye?"
"So, if I'm not around, you'd have other ideas?"
"You're always ready to think the worst of me. Fine, I'm not going to explain!"
Emmett grinned, "I love it when you get all huffy like this!"
"Mr. Melendez, it's not cool to treat your subordinate like this during work hours. Can't I even voice my objections?"
"I'm just openly expressing my love for you. Given enough downtime, I'd spoil you rotten."
At this, Clara took a step back, "Are you pulling my leg? I've got things to do this afternoon. I really can't..."
Seeing the woman in front of him spooked by his words, Emmett didn't know whether to admire his own charm or think she was just jumpy.
He glanced at his watch, "I've got to hit the conference room. Wait for me at the office after work. Don't wander off. If I don't hear from you or receive any messages, don't leave. I'm taking you to see our new place today."
Clara nodded, "All right!"
Emmett gave her a peck on the cheek before leaving with a satisfied grin.
Clara rolled her eyes, then remembered the message Elio had sent her earlier.
After some hesitation, she went back to her office and called him back. After a few rings, Elio picked up.
"I feel terrible! Clara, am I dying?"
Upon hearing this, Clara took a deep breath, "Forget it! You’ve got enough on your plate at the office. I'll go to his place and I'll keep you posted."
"If you find him, you must let me know immediately! I'll come over once my meeting is over."
"All right."
After hanging up, Clara looked at her phone, feeling a pang of guilt.
Emmett trusted her so much, but now she had to go find Elio.
She couldn't abandon either of them. Emmett was her husband, while Elio was the one who once saved her.
She was truly torn!
