Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 31

"That just proves I'm straight."

"Why are you like this, though? Do you want to look for that woman from before?" Patrick Melendez asked. "I feel like you didn't really have a problem with her back then, right?"

Emmett remained silent.

"This can be easily sorted! I can go find her for you! Your mom was in touch with this woman, she should still be able to track her down."

"No need." Emmett rejected the offer outright. "I don't have time to think about this stuff now. All you need to know is that I'm perfectly normal. And Aiden is very healthy. Whether I get married or not is irrelevant! If you have time for this, you'd better go on a trip with mom."

"Does that have anything to do with it? Are you planning to stay single forever?"

"I can't be with other women, no one can change that." Emmett said. "I can't help it either."

Patrick frowned, "Then you have two choices. Either I go find the woman who gave birth to your child, or you marry your secretary! I feel like you don't have an issue with her."

"I reject both options."

"Why?!"

"Don't worry about my business. I have my own plans."

Having said that, Emmett turned and left. Patrick slammed the table in anger, "You really have grown up, not even listening to your own father anymore!"

On a weekend morning, Clara Calloway woke up early to tackle the house chores, including the laundry. She was relieved that Alex had enough clothes; otherwise, he would have had nothing to wear. With work waiting for her when she returned home and the added task of organizing Emmett's work, Clara simply couldn't afford to spend time on housework.

"Mommy!" Alex emerged from his bedroom, rubbing his sleepy eyes. "I'm going to be late for school. Why didn't you wake me up..."

Clara gently tapped Alex's nose and replied, "Don't you remember? Today is the weekend! Although your test scores weren't great this time, you've been working hard, so mommy still wants to reward you!"

Alex couldn't help but pout. He wasn't afraid of anything now. It's just that he knew Aiden would scold him, and he felt a little nervous as if he had done something wrong.

"Alex, what are you doing?" Clara held the tickets and looked at her son.

"I didn't do anything. I'm just waiting here for you!"

"What a good boy!" Clara handed the mask and hat in her hand to her son, "We should follow our usual practice, we need to wear these in crowded public places."

Alex looked at the hat and mask, this time he hesitated a bit, "Mom, can I not wear these? Why do I always have to wear these? I see other kids don't have to."

"Do you want to leave mommy?"

Alex shook his head vigorously, "No!"
