Clara kept nodding, "Gotcha, Mr. Melendez!"

Emmett gave her a quick glance and then turned around to leave.

Only then did Clara let out a sigh of relief.

The day went by in a flash, and Clara realized it was already time to leave the office. Just as she was about to make her way out, she unexpectedly ran into Emmett.

"Remember, tomorrow is the weekend."

Clara nodded in acknowledgment, "Yes, I'm aware... but Mr. Melendez, I might not be able to accompany your son. You see, my own son wants to go out and play too. I've already promised him! I've been so caught up with work, and I don't want him to feel neglected. I hope you understand, Mr. Melendez."

Emmett's brow furrowed in concern, "In that case, bring your son along. We can all go out together tomorrow."

Clara hurriedly explained, "My son is quite shy and gets scared around strangers! I apologize, Mr. Melendez, I hope you understand."

"Oh." Emmett didn't give her a hard time, he just gave a slight nod and motioned, "You can go."

Watching Clara's retreating figure, Emmett's brows furrowed.

It wasn't that he insisted on having Clara around, it's just that... he felt somewhat at a loss dealing with his son alone!

From childhood to adulthood, his son had never spent alone time with him, let alone had much conversation. They probably didn't even meet five times in the past year!

Now, he was to take his son out alone to bond and he didn't know how to go about it!

He had hoped that Clara could join and ease the awkwardness a bit, but she had her own son to take care of.

Emmett looked at his father for a moment, suddenly recalling Clara's words.

"Dad, did you hire Clara to be my wife?!"

"That was indeed my original intention." Patrick didn't intend to hide it, "But I just found out she already has a son and doesn't seem to have any plans to marry you! I thought she would happily agree, but she kindly rejected me! Emmett, don't you think it's time for some self-reflection? Why haven't you had a woman by your side all these years? If it wasn't for your mom and me insisting on you having Aiden, we probably wouldn't even have a grandchild by now!"

Every time this topic came up, Emmett seemed somewhat impatient.

"I already have a grandson, why do you still insist on me getting married?"

"You can't stay single forever! Haven't you heard the rumors outside? I've heard them!" Patrick studied his son for a moment, his eyes suddenly bulging, "Could it be... you really are..."

Emmett, feeling exasperated, said, "When Aiden was born, it wasn't by means of IVF in the end."
