"I'm starting to feel a bit beat. We should call it a night. It’s getting late, and isn't it about time you hit the road, right?"
Elio paused momentarily, his face stiffening before he nodded, "Alright, just chill out here. If you need anything, let Nestor know, and he'll get the word to me. I'll do my best to meet your requests as long as you play ball."
"I don't really have any demands right now, just hoping if you hear anything about Leah, you could clue me in. After all, this whole situation isn't just about Emmett, and it involves my two kids as well. I can't just sit on my hands and do nothing!"
"Don't worry, I've watched Alex grow up since he was a rugrat. I won't let him walk into any danger. If push comes to shove, I'll take him away. I won't let Leah lay a finger on him."
"The same goes for Aiden." Clara quickly added, "If you can bring Alex to me, could you spring Aiden too?"
Elio nodded, "Sure thing, you've got my word."
Clara stood still, watching Elio's lonely figure disappear into the night.
She let out a soft sigh. If it weren't for Leah's high-handedness, Elio would still be the same old sunny, warm, straight-shooting yet kind-hearted Elio in her heart.
...
As night fell, Aiden ensured the house staff had all hit the sack before cautiously nudging the already sleeping Alex.
"Do you still want to go find mom?"
Alex rubbed his tired eyes, a bit bewildered as he nodded, "Right now?"
"Yes, come on, let's make tracks, or we'll miss our window! The next shift of guards will be taking over soon. Once they do, we're totally screwed!"
Hearing this, Alex quickly sat up and grabbed his clothes to put on.
