"We just keep going down this way, and remember to avoid any cars that pass. They might be ours, and they'll recognize us. We don’t recognize them, so they can easily spot us."

Alex nodded, and while popping a candy in his mouth, he said, "Sure thing, I'll stick behind you."

Alex and Aiden continued down the dimly lit lane.

They didn't bump into any cars as expected, but soon enough, Alex started lagging behind, just as Aiden predicted.

"Aiden, I'm beat. Can we take a breather?"

Aiden checked his phone and said, "Can't. We're about two kilometers from downtown, where we can hail a cab. Hang in there."

"Two kilometers? I'm really exhausted."

Aiden quickly handed him a candy and asked, "How about now? Can you make it now?"

"It's no good. I've found out that candy can’t solve my fatigue. My legs are giving up."

Aiden had no choice but to pat his back and said, "Then hop on; I'll carry you."

"But won't you get tired, Aiden?" Alex pouted yet didn't move, "Never mind, I'll just follow behind you, just slow down a bit."

Aiden nodded while dialing his dad on his phone, but it kept saying the line was busy.

"I've been calling since morning till now. I can't get through to our dad. Looks like he's blocked my number," Aiden sighed after finishing his sentence.

Alex was a bit puzzled and asked, "Why would Dad block your number?"

"Given the circumstances, it's probably not Dad's doing. It's probably Grandma's."
