"No can do, we have no idea what's going on out there! We can't just head out willy-nilly. Stay put here for a bit. I'll go check."
"No way, I'm coming with you!" Alex clung onto his clothes, "I'd be scared out of my wits alone."
Left with no choice, Aiden had to take him along. They had just stepped out the warehouse door when suddenly, there was a bang.
A gun was pressed at the back of the kids' heads.
"Nobody move!" A man's voice filled with rage, tinged with a hint of desperation, said, "I don't give a damn, but I have to take these kids with me! Think about it!"
Aiden got a good look, and the man turned out to be his father.
Alex shouted in excitement, "Dad, we're here! Help us!"
Aiden quickly pulled Alex back, signaling him to keep his voice down. It was crucial to keep their father level-headed, not to be swayed by emotions, or he might make a rash decision!
On the other side, Emmett clenched his fists and asked, "What the hell do you want? Spit it out!"
"I don't want anything. I just can't stand the arrogance of you rich folks! I want you to know that life isn't always a bed of roses!"
Emmett frowned, "I don't believe you kidnapped the kids just for that. Out with it! If someone put you up to this, I can offer you double or more. If you want money, name your price! I promise not to call the cops. Hand over the kids to us, and I'll let you walk!"
"Let me walk? You think I'd fall for that?" The man sneered, "I've come this far. I've lost! The lives of these kids are in my hands!"
As he was about to pull the trigger when suddenly, the man felt a blow to the back of his head.
Emmett squinted and spotted Leah, who had sneakily attacked him from behind!
A gunshot rang out.
