Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 38

Emmett suddenly handed her a contract and a detailed chart.

The chart read...

A hug for ten grand, attending a party as a couple for ten grand, a kiss for fifty grand, and a sleepover for a hundred grand.

Emmett said, "Sleepover doesn't mean we'll actually be sleeping together."

"Don't worry, Mr. Melendez, I got the picture!"

"I'll crash on the bed, you on the carpet."

The company's afternoon workload was heavy as hell, so much so that Clara barely had time to wet her whistle.

Summer was coming and loads of construction projects were about to kick off. The floor plans and design drawings needed to be squared away in advance.

Emmett couldn't be bothered with these things, so it was up to her to get them sorted, and then let Emmett rubber-stamp them.

By the time she was done, it was seven in the evening...

Of course, she hadn't picked up Alex yet.

The kid who should've been waiting at the kindergarten for his mom showed up at the doorstep of Melendez's company!

"I remember Mommy said she works here." Alex looked up.

The towering building made his head spin. He couldn't help but marvel, "If this was my home, that'd be sick! I could set up a slide on it, and it'd be so much fun!"

"Hey kiddo, who are you looking for?"

The security guard spotted Alex and briskly walked over.

Alex opened his mouth, wanting to say his mom's name, but then he shook his head, "Mister, can I go in and take a look?"

"Kid, this ain't a playground! Where are your parents?"

"My Mom and Dad both work here, I want to surprise them." Alex said with a grin, "They're so busy they forgot to pick me up. See how good I am, making it here all by myself!"

"So what are your Mom and Dad's names? I can look them up and have them come down to get you!"

"I forgot my mom and dad's names!"

"Well, that's a pickle. I can't just let you go in." The security guard hesitated, "You wait here. I'll have the receptionist take you in to look for your folks, okay?"

Alex nodded hurriedly, "Okay! Thank you!"

If he got spotted, would he have to keep pretending to be Aiden and get taken home?

As he was about to make a run for it, he heard Emmett's voice behind him-

"Freeze!"

Alex stiffened.

Emmett, expressionless, walked over, "Aiden? What are you doing here at the company?"

"I... uh... well... I was bored and... and..." Alex was too nervous to form a full sentence.

Emmett looked at the boy in front of him, frowning.

"Hold on! You're not Aiden."

This was a statement, not a question.

What he was wearing was clearly not Aiden's clothes but a regular kindergarten uniform!

Could it be, he had another son in this world?!
